    I disagree...

    Blue is better.

    Wait, red is better.

    Noooooo.

    Blue....no, red, no.....Blue.

    Balls, I can't decide.

Black or purple, everyone knows you get deeper lows, sweeter highs and, let's not forget, black guitars often contain more haunting mids.

White for Gibsons (except LP Customs).

    Black for Fenders.

    But sunburst works with everything.

  • Yeah they both sound worse than sunburst guitars, to my ears anyway...! :)

  • Green is the best with blue a close second.

Red is for Hank Marvin, do you need any more to discredit the colour?
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I think there actually was a thread on TGP once about straps affecting tone.

I don't even know if it was a parody or not.

I used to think my blue Godin was far better than my red Variax.

And then this came in to my life...

It's my go-to guitar now. It sounds amazing and covers so many bases. It sits next to my TV!

  • It's like the same with cars... Red cars go faster. Therefore red guitars sound better. To a point!

But for ye who wields the ebony Les Paul Standard, may the notes ring ever in your favor ;)

But which is better? There's only one way to decide...

    FIGHT!!!
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I think you'll find it does, especially if it looks like this:

We perceive colour by the amount of light absorbed. Extra light gives a guitar 0.0023 Hertz more resonance. I can therefore verify that a red guitar does indeed sound slightly better than a blue one, although human hearing is not good enough to tell. If you have a dog, you will probably notice that he is slightly less disinterested when you pick up a red guitar. This is because he is thinking "oh well, at least the racket sounds slightly more appealing".

Black or White guitars should be ritually burnt.  Horrible things.  Best colours?  Green (dont have any :( Red, blue or any form of cherry burst.  NOT 3 col burst - no no no no no no

For above - dont we perceive colour by the light reflected rather than absorbed?  therfore dark colours have more "absorbed" than light - giving that greater resonance.  So technically colour wouldn't matter - but shade would.  It does mean that while white guitars are indeed shite, black ones are great - so Ill have to disagree with the whole argument on that alone.

  • You're all wrong. Natural, or sunburst FTW.

Didn't someone have a signature that said "Red ones are better"?
