Are any of you holding on to a guitar, that you should probably move on?

I'm starting to annoy myself about my indecision here. In short, I bought a lovely looking PRS SC245 last year, it's a beautiful looking, playing and sounding thing (limited Jet White with gold h/w), the problem is, since then I bought a PRS Stripped '58 which is arguably a better guitar (feel wise, I prefer the TOM style setup and the tone of the 57/08's).

Just wondering when I'll ever play the white one over the goldtop.

I don't *need* to sell it, any money from a sale would only go on another guitar, but I don't *need* it either (2x LP's + Stripped '58). No particular sentimental value to it, it's just a stunning looking, great playing guitar.

Anyone else doing similar? I'm not a guitar collector, so nuts for me to keep it really, but something is holding me back from moving it on.

I've had this but have recently managed to move on all the stuff I didn't have any reason to keep.

I'm down to just the nine now :D

  • Yup.
My Vintage V100 Lemon Drop. It's been refinished by Raygun Relics & I've completely replaced its guts pickups... It plays great & sounds awesome, and yet it's never my first choice. I've no idea why not!

I know I should move it on, but I spent quite a lot of time & effort getting it just so and am reluctant to concede that it's not for me.

If I sell it i'll inevitably buy something else, despite not "needing" anything.

  • My larrivee acoustic. I rarely play it because it's loud and I mainly play electric. Undecided whether to sell or not.

God yes Roadworn 60s strat. Bought it for the Chillis tribute I'm in. Don't like the neck so use a 61 ri instead

White falcon with dynas. Great but I've got a black falcon with dynas and a white falcon with filtertrons so it's redundant
Gretsch green 6120 with dynas ... See above

4 Les Paul Artists great guitars but only need 1 ... Ok then 2

PRS SC mahogany thingy ... Hate it. It's only job is to stop me buying other PRS
60s Gold top tribute with p90s. I fitted a Bigsby to it and it plays great but the neck is too skinny

Got a beat up classic vibe 50s strat I originally used for the Chillis plays well but ... Well you know
Roadworn blond tele . I have a sunburst one I put a brass bridge and a lil 59 in ... Makes this one not as good in comparison
54 RI les Paul custom . The pickups just don't suit anything I'm playing just now
I've got two goldtops .. Don't know why
     I could go on....

I'm kind of a workaholic so I guess I use new guitar day as a bit of a release from the daily stress of running your own business
There are some advantages... it pays well but there are hidden costs to it
Still I can't complain ... some people have real problems. Not bullshit first world stuff like this

  • Far to many tbh.
But alot of them are old vintage guitars with a decent amount of value n sentimental value too.
About 40 old gretsch, fender, gibson ect. I just can't seem to really let any of the good ones go.
    Maybe I have issues!!!!!! Lol

My Taylor T5, my first guitar...then 3 weeks later I bought my PRS, and pretty much since I've not picked up the Taylor more than 5 mins. It's a great instrument and keeping because it's my first guitar and stopping me buying a £2k acoustic.

The 'Green Bastard' Jazz-parts-master that I recently sold was one I've hung onto for ages without really playing.
Why? Because I spent so much time (and money) getting it to a state where I was actually happy with how it played and sounded. Plus it looked so good! I was convinced that I would use it but seldom did. Now it's gone I kind of miss it  :(

    Sadly, Yes:

LP Custom Classic. Never play it, but it is a nice guitar and resale just isn't worth it.

Richie Sambora Black Paisley strat. Never play it, but neck is lovely. Needs better pickups. Parents gave it me for 21st so will never sell it

MIJ Pink Paisley Tele: Lusted after for years and years. Needs new pickups and a setup. Don't liek the skinny frets. Can't be bothered.

Schechter tempest custom: I like this but it's so different to my others, another that needs a setup.

My issue is a setup in Switzerland costs a fortune. I need to learn how to do it myself, but scared of screwing up! The other thing is a recording time, it's really useful to have all these options. I really must though get some oil city pickups for the paisleys

  • @Teetonetal what do you do in Switzerland for work? You may have mentioned before, and if so, I apologise. Do the neighbours get ratty about you playing guitar?

  • My Squier '51 is a bit redundant these days.  As it's worth not a lot more than a ton, I really can't get my arse into gear to sell it.

Fender American Standard Strat - Fantastic guitar that sees literally no play time at all - need to get rid of it because it bums me out that its just sitting there

I have more guitars than I really have time to play, but the ones I could sell are worth so little money that it would be a waste of time and effort to go through the process of selling them.

Yep a PRS SE245 which was something of an impulse buy a couple of years ago.

    @djspecialist, here you go.
Halfway down the page.. I've since taken out the Wilkinson p'ups and out in an Iron Gear Blues Engine & dirty Torque (but they're equally reliced so in keeping with the guitar).
