Gypsy John was a keen boxer on his day and clearly not past it in terms of inflicting violence.
If I were Tyson I'd hold a press conference and stock that belt in a bin, Riddick Bowe style.
I'm into boxing and never heard of the fellas who will fight for that belt and be crowned "world champion"
Proper scumbags are the IBF
I can see why some people get upset about it, and why they feel the need to protest that a supposedly "right on" organisation like the BBC is passively condoning (perhaps) his stance by including him in an awards ceremony.
don't know which side of the argument I fall into tbh. I can't stand awards ceremonies, and I can't stand big mouthed self righteous busy bodies, and I like boxing.
From what I can see, Fury is a complex and unpredictable individual who doesn't appear to have the intelligence to distinguish tongue in cheek humour from reality: possibly from a lifetime of him being able to get away with saying what he wants, owing to the fact that he is one big bugger who maybe has been rarely challenged.
I don't think he's a particularly good boxer either, but he certainly played a blinder in beating Klitschko. I think Klitschko may well beat him in the rematch, but it could be close. However, Deontay Wilder is very likely to paste Fury if he ever fitghts him, as would David Haye if he ever gets back to his pre retirement best (unlikely IMO).
Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!
Shame, cos it now fragments the titles further. There was a good chance of a fully unified title holder if Fury and WIlder could have been arranged.
Boxing is a bit of a joke sport these days. It was bad enough when the IBF appeared in the 80s, but once the WBO arrived, then it was lights out IMO, for a credible competitive sport. Umpteen champions, many of questionable quality.
The problem the BBC face in all this bollocks is how you define the line between cultural/religious beliefs and personal views. Paedophilia aside as 99% of society agrees, Tyson Fury has made a statement saying abortion and homosexuality is wrong. To most he is homophobic. However he is a gypsy and they are homophobic. So if you're the BBC do you condemn the man himself (idiot or not) or do condemn his cultural/religious beliefs?
Last years winner was Lewis Hamilton. He describes himself as a devout Catholic so presumably holds some similar views to Tyson Fury. Should the fact that he was shrewd enough to not blurt it out make him a more acceptable winner? Possibly, but then effectively the BBC are drawing a very blurring line about what sport 'personalities' are allowed to comment on.
Zara Phillips won the award despite not only be an Anglican but her grandmother heads the church which is still deeply divided on their views on homosexuals and is strongly against abortion.
There was a huge groundswell for Mo Farah to win a few years back. Mo Farah describes himself as a 'devout Muslim'.
There are plenty of other overtly religious winners and in years to come we are undoubtedly going to see more Britain's from other cultural backgrounds so the BBC is going to face a tricky call here. Not that any of it actually matters as quite frankly if sporting success and large pay cheques aren't enough to sate these guys then their problems run far deeper than being concerned with men touching up men.
I see he's up for "hate crimes" now. The guy was bought up in pikey camps ffs. Do they expect him to be some sort of socially enlightened Stephen Fry or something?

If you are a sportsman with the same views, they give you an award!
BBC judgement, as ever, is stupidly hypocritical. BBC Sport's clout in the organisation seems on the rise again...
Yeah, similarly as Tyson Fury seems to doubt the ability of women outside the kitchen and the bedroom he should turn up a St Ormond Street hospital and have a shot a doing the job of some of the female surgeons, consultants, doctors and nurses.
I appreciate by trying to get punched in the head less times that the guys he is earning millions to fight he is changing the world and deserves respect for it but it doesn't mean he has deride what could possible be the poor little lady surgeon charged with removing his next brain clot.
It just always makes me laugh when someone questions a famous person's opinion and this is somehow supposed to be offset by their achievement (usually in a field where their sole concern was topping up their bank account) in comparison to the achievement in that field of the person making the comment.
"I think the Chinese government has an awful human rights record!"
"Yeah, well you should try governing 1.5 billions people before you comment. It's hard work."
Or
"That singer from Lostprophets is a dirty paedo. I mean why the fuck?"
"Yeah, well have you ever sold old Wembley arena? How would you know then?"
