That ain't gonna happen man, tysons got his number, klitscho was more than terrible the other week and cannot improve in the rematch.

We live in a different world to these guys, he is a product of his culture and upbringing. Travellers are generally very religious and have tradition roles in married etc.

I think he did very well to go over to Germany and beat big Vlad on that he deserves to win.

He's an easy target for the tabloids, he's not a patch on the lying twat politicians we have "representing us" or the media wankers making programmes about folk on benefits etc.

I think his Uncle is a great fella , he knows his boxing and worked a good game plan to beat Vladimir.

Don't fuck with his dad for real lol.

Why? He's not Ronnie Pickering, is he?
I'd say he's who Ronnie Pickering wants to be :)

Gypsy John was a keen boxer on his day and clearly not past it in terms of inflicting violence.

IBF are a set of corrupt wankers out to extort boxers for horrendous sanctioning fees.

If I were Tyson I'd hold a press conference and stock that belt in a bin, Riddick Bowe style.

I'm into boxing and never heard of the fellas who will fight for that belt and be crowned "world champion"

    Proper scumbags are the IBF

    What an unprofessional knobhead.

And really... this is all a bit too classist for me. I looked around... not a single cogent argument presented against Fury literally anywhere.... it's all pikey this and scumbag that and rargh rargh rargh...

Stupid fucking outrage porn for losers who like to knit.
I think the point they are raising is that he has likened homosexuals to paedophiles and makes no bones about saying that women are best placed in the kitchen or on their backs in bed.

I can see why some people get upset about it, and why they feel the need to protest that a supposedly "right on" organisation like the BBC is passively condoning (perhaps) his stance by including him in an awards ceremony.

don't know which side of the argument I fall into tbh. I can't stand awards ceremonies, and I can't stand big mouthed self righteous busy bodies, and I like boxing.

From what I can see, Fury is a complex and unpredictable individual who doesn't appear to have the intelligence to distinguish tongue in cheek humour from reality: possibly from a lifetime of him being able to get away with saying what he wants, owing to the fact that he is one big bugger who maybe has been rarely challenged.

I don't think he's a particularly good boxer either, but he certainly played a blinder in beating Klitschko. I think Klitschko may well beat him in the rematch, but it could be close. However, Deontay Wilder is very likely to paste Fury if he ever fitghts him, as would David Haye if he ever gets back to his pre retirement best (unlikely IMO).

Agree. Clive Myrie better watch his back as Fury's family are old school hard men. His dad's only just got out of prison for gouging a guy's eye out in a fight. Look on Facebook and there's lots of support for Fury in white working class areas - Myrie should remember who pays his salary before mouthing off. Fury has a right to make his comments and people have a right to criticise and ridicule him for it, but Myrie came across as a dickhead.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

  • There was something about the IBF title on the radio this morning. As I understood it it's basically a formality that he would be stripped of the title as he cant fulfil the contract for this and the contract for the other two titles so he either lost this one or the other two. I guess he pocketed the fight money and can say he was triple world champion. Not much of a news item unless you are interested in contract law.

Its the IBF being arseholes. They have a track record of behaving like this, and don't hesitate in stripping of titles. They knew of the contract for the rematch, so it was a formality.

Shame, cos it now fragments the titles further. There was a good chance of a fully unified title holder if Fury and WIlder could have been arranged.

Boxing is a bit of a joke sport these days. It was bad enough when the IBF appeared in the 80s, but once the WBO arrived, then it was lights out IMO, for a credible competitive sport. Umpteen champions, many of questionable quality.

  • The problem the BBC face in all this bollocks is how you define the line between cultural/religious beliefs and personal views.  Paedophilia aside as 99% of society agrees, Tyson Fury has made a statement saying abortion and homosexuality is wrong.  To most he is homophobic.  However he is a gypsy and they are homophobic.  So if you're the BBC do you condemn the man himself (idiot or not) or do condemn his cultural/religious beliefs?

Last years winner was Lewis Hamilton.  He describes himself as a devout Catholic so presumably holds some similar views to Tyson Fury.  Should the fact that he was shrewd enough to not blurt it out make him a more acceptable winner?  Possibly, but then effectively the BBC are drawing a very blurring line about what sport 'personalities' are allowed to comment on.

Zara Phillips won the award despite not only be an Anglican but her grandmother heads the church which is still deeply divided on their views on homosexuals and is strongly against abortion.

There was a huge groundswell for Mo Farah to win a few years back.  Mo Farah describes himself as a 'devout Muslim'.

There are plenty of other overtly religious winners and in years to come we are undoubtedly going to see more Britain's from other cultural backgrounds so the BBC is going to face a tricky call here.  Not that any of it actually matters as quite frankly if sporting success and large pay cheques aren't enough to sate these guys then their problems run far deeper than being concerned with men touching up men.

A lot of people in the UK think abortion is wrong. That part is hardly contraversial. To be honest I have never heard a wholly ethical justification for abortion (just a lot of utilitarian ones).

I see he's up for "hate crimes" now. The guy was bought up in pikey camps ffs. Do they expect him to be some sort of socially enlightened Stephen Fry or something?

The problem is, what exactly is the award for, sporting achievement? in which case Tyson Fury rightfully states a huge claim as the first guy to beat someone in 11 years. By any definition that is achievement. Or personality, which he seems to be, just not an acceptable one.

Was Nigel Mansel a nice guy and charismatic? Andy Murray? not sure if Freddy Flintof ever won it - he comes over as funny and a big personality, but his drunkard antics mean he is probably a bigger idiot than Tyson Fury.

the media has decided to make sports people role models or villains, which, so long as sportsman win cleanly has nothing to do with sporting success or achievement.

Fury can believe, say and do what he likes, within his sport's rules. Being liked might earn him extra pennies, but right now; whether or not he is a dick is largely irrelevant.

Trump - he's a bit mental as well. Clearly the bloke isnt thick, so there is no doubt a very clever game going on under it all, but he does tread a very fine line. Seems the yanks love him though.

I'm not questioning his ability to box.
I am questioning his ability to think rationally.

If you are a minor DJ in commercial radio seeking a job with the BBC, they would look at your past work, note you likened homos to paedos, and turn you down for the Radio 1 job. The rule is not to say or do things that would bring the BBC into disrepute.

If you are a sportsman with the same views, they give you an award!

BBC judgement, as ever, is stupidly hypocritical. BBC Sport's clout in the organisation seems on the rise again...

Yeah, similarly as Tyson Fury seems to doubt the ability of women outside the kitchen and the bedroom he should turn up a St Ormond Street hospital and have a shot a doing the job of some of the female surgeons, consultants, doctors and nurses.

I appreciate by trying to get punched in the head less times that the guys he is earning millions to fight he is changing the world and deserves respect for it but it doesn't mean he has deride what could possible be the poor little lady surgeon charged with removing his next brain clot.

It just always makes me laugh when someone questions a famous person's opinion and this is somehow supposed to be offset by their achievement (usually in a field where their sole concern was topping up their bank account) in comparison to the achievement in that field of the person making the comment.

"I think the Chinese government has an awful human rights record!"

"Yeah, well you should try governing 1.5 billions people before you comment.  It's hard work."

    Or

"That singer from Lostprophets is a dirty paedo.  I mean why the fuck?"

"Yeah, well have you ever sold old Wembley arena?  How would you know then?"

  • I've been an avid boxing fan since I was a kid, heavyweights in particular, and whilst not wishing to disparage the way anyone earns their living, I  know the difference between Shakespeare's writings and leaving a note out for the milkman. Mr Fury's moments in the sun are all well and good, but in a comparative sense with the Greats - he's simply 2 pints and half a dozen eggs.
