As for it being restrictive, depends on your wants and needs I guess. The unit does a lot and there are some great sounds to be had without using external pedals, but I know I can get a much better sound from the pedals instead of just the POD. Some of the POD effects don't have a lot of adjustable parameters and it can be a bit tedious trying to dial in a setting, but as I say there's a lot in there.
I'm a pretty shite guitar player (but eager to learn), so take my words with a pinch of salt. I can't hand on heart say I've explored everything the POD has to offer but I've certainly played around with it a lot. When I started, like many people I wasn't sure what sound I wanted, so I went with a setup to give me a little taste of everything and at the minute it does just that.

Nice.....although how a man who clearly only has one leg can stomp on a pedal is beyond me.

Just had the pedaltrain metro 16 for christmas with a few of the pedals. Its my home practice one as most of the time I cant be arsed to get the big board out, but it sounds great and so portable I might take it to practice anyway.
