    @TTBZ ;

    I did do that actually, very very lightly but it made a difference. I think I might need to run over it again as it was a few months ago.

    (Sorry, I don't get the pickups comment?)

    I heard that little shards of steel wool will get attracted to the magnets on your pickups and be near impossible to get rid of when they're on there, so I masked em off.

    Ahhhh. Ok. I actually used some sort of synthetic (I think) stuff my old man gave me. It's similar but don't think there's any steel in it as it's quite a bit softer. I'll see if I can find out what it was, in case it's of interest.

    I've got an Indonesian made 2014 model LP Standard and after two and half years of regular play I still really like it. It cost me around £275 new and to me it's amazing value. The neck pickup sounds quite muddy to me, but it's not bad, and the fit of the jack socket and pot's needed tightening up and adjusted a little, but other than that it's spot on. I've swapped the knobs, scratchplate and pickup surrounds for black ones but that's it. The Grover tuners are really solid and accurate and definitely feel better than than the Gibson vintage style ones on my SG Faded.

    The SG is better built and has a much nicer overall feel having the faded Nitro finish but the Epiphone LP is a sturdy and reliable guitar, really good value for money. I am contemplating swapping the pickups but the limit still sits with me more than my gear!

    The Epiphones that appeal most to me are the ones that are actual Epiphone models, and not Epiphone-badged Gibson models. The Casino, the Emperor Swingster, the Wildkat, etc... those are pretty cool and a good value.

  • My swingster isn't going anywhere.it beat off a gretsch electromatic  g5422t . The gretsch felt like a toy compared to my swingster... in my opinion..
    Also got a newish Chinese  sheraton, lovely player and looker. Uses to have an older epiphone by gibson headstock  1988 Korean Sheraton ,should of never let that go...!
    And also had  a epi Chinese dot 335. Also great guitar,quite a chunky neck on that one...

    Yes. What I mean is I'm a learner. I doubt swapping the pickups will make much difference at my level. I could be playing a 59 Les Paul and a Bluesbreaker and I'd still sound like a learner.

    I probably worded that badly, I'm the weakest link in the chain... not the Epiphone or the pickups.
