Lots of people have said that, or words to that effect, and it is something I've definitely come to realise in the last 10-15 years.

I just haven't got round to actually learning any songs.

Modes are not difficult to understand. Picking properly is really important. Turn the gain down!

Same here, after 40+ years, don't know a single song all the way through...I go off on tangents.

 I can turn the Smoke On The Water riff into a 20 minute post bop improvisation standing on my head. But Wonderwall et al, never did get round to those charts.

Setting your pole pieces on your humbuckers/P90 to follow the fret board radius is a pile of poo and actually makes zero sense....  Stock strat pole heights are completely bollocks too and upset me greatly.

valves amps sound glorious really cranked up, ear orgasm's that you can share with your friends.....neighbors and general neighborhood
