Looks great! DIY question as I'm about to start insulating my garage for PA storage. I've been reading up on internal wall insulation and they all suggest a vapour barrier to stop condensation, i.e. polythene or similar on the wall before the insulation. I see you haven't done that. do you think it'll be OK?

John, pure luck I spotted this, when I did my workshop I was worried about the same thing, I lined everything with heavy duty (can’t remember the micron rating) polythene prior to putting the batons on and wall insulation then plaster boards on top of that, I’ve not had any issues with condensation in 10+ years since doing it and the workshop is busy every day. I’d err on the side of caution, it wasn’t expensive probably 40 quid to kit my whole area out and it’s a massive workspace

The skin of the workshop is timber. Air flow is key. Even with the stove in here I keep a window on the first latch for ventilation and circulation. Condensation is caused by lack of air flow. If you make your unit air tight I’d advise getting a dehumidifier, I’m putting one in when I’m finished plus a vent on the opposite side of the workshop from where the windows are. I don’t want the timber sweating.

@lonestar Pedant alert.....condensation isn't caused by lack of airflow. It's caused by the moisture content in the air passing through the fabric of a building when there is an inherent temperature gradient and hitting progressively colder temperatures until such point the moisture condenses. It's known as the dewpoint. If the dewpoint is within the fabric of the building it condenses within the fabric and that's when you start to have problems. A vapour barrier (polythene) prevents the warm moist air passing through the fabric of the building so while there is a still a temperature gradient across the fabric, the vb prevents that moisture travelling across it.

You are correct in that ventilation introduces cooler air from outside which as by definition less moisture in it. This mixes and displaces warm moist air. To be fair,my ou 'may' not experience problems, particularly if the stove is drawing in air from outside, you run a dehumidifier and you keep the window on the latch.

Today is my first day off in 15 days. I have no doubt I’ll end up in the workshop later on to tidy up a little and play guitar but this is the first actual day I haven’t been up early to think about what I still have to do.
