I debated posting this earlier. Reading the full article I couldn’t help but feel that woman was looking for any excuse to sue!

Nail on the head. She was probably disappointed when they provided the interpreter in the first place as it took the sting out of her ‘brave stance’

I wonder if she is hoping the band will see it, and come and meet her daughter.

I did find it crazy myself, she is after paper time or money otherwise.

I read that this morning and first thought was, she asked for an interpreter to sign for the Littlemix concert, she got one, then afterwards decided to moan that she didnt have one for the support acts. Did she request one for the support acts?

She shouldn’t have to! The world should revolve around her and everyone should consider her needs without having to ask!

This is setting a very dangerous precedent.  It would be completely impractical to provide this at the Dog and Duck where a band are playing to 30 people.  Who decides where the limit should be?  Is it 100 people, 200, 1000?

This stuff can be a minefield.  We have got a hearing aid induction loop at the church I play at, but we have to turn it off during the music because it gets picked up by single coil guitar pickups, and you get horrible howling feedback.  So far it's not been an issue, but potentially someone could make trouble over it.

I’m being deliberately silly in my example of course but where on earth do you draw the line? Should the wheelchair bound expect a team of Sherpas to be provided at a rock climbing centre so that they can have ‘full access the experience’ or whatever the correct terminology is?

Or do those in wheelchairs simply accept that rock climbing, in the main, probably isn’t the most practical hobby?

As a climbing instructor who is specifically trained and qualified to take disabled people up climbing walls, down abseil lines (in or out of a wheel chair) and up cliffs, I'd say most disabled people I've worked with are ecstatic to get the chance to experience such activities, buy certainly don't expect to be able to access them without specialist provision.

I'm not sure that proves anything, but I've no shortage of clients.

"The band welcome all fans to their shows, especially those with hearing impairment, and encourage the promoters they work with to make provisions to ensure their fans can enjoy the concert experience."

My son is disabled, yet I can appreciate both sides of the argument.

It's a difficult question, the one about where to "draw the line".  "Reasonable adjustments" can take on all sorts of different meanings depending on your perspective.

All I can say is don't be too quick to judge if you yourself are lucky enough to not have to deal with disability day in and day out.  It's not that much fun.

    @bodhi ;
i dont think anyone is judging, i know i certainly am not, but they way she has put her side across, she asked for, and recieved an interpretor for the littlemix show, afterwards she has complained that she didnt get for the support acts, it doesnt look to me that she requested that

"We consulted with her recommended agency and agreed to provide the professional interpreter of her choice for the Little Mix show."This included specific staging and lighting, and a set list in advance."LHG Live also provided upgraded tickets, access to private accessible toilets and all public announcements on giant screens either side of the main stage.

That’s great to hear. I hope my post didn’t come across as unsympathetic to those with disabilities as nothing could be further from the truth.

But seeing this article has filled me with rage. For her to turn around and say that they haven’t taken reasonable steps to cater to her needs is beyond belief!

I absolutely get that, having had several family members and friends with disabilities.

It’s this specific trend of faux outrage that really winds me up.

    From the article:

"We consulted with her recommended agency and agreed to provide the professional interpreter of her choice for the Little Mix show.

"This included specific staging and lighting, and a set list in advance."

LHG Live also provided upgraded tickets, access to private accessible toilets and all public announcements on giant screens either side of the main stage.

How can she in good conscience turn around and say that reasonable steps weren’t taken to accommodate her requirements? It sounds like they weren’t very understanding during the initial request for an interpreter - and that’s not good - but it sounds like by the time of the concert they’d taken a lot of action to make sure she had a good time.

On a lighter note, fair play to anyone that can ‘interpret’ that absolute dirge :)
