Reminds me of an old couple I overheard once..

    ”Look dear, a Kestrel”

    ”No dear, that’s a Kite”

    ”How can you tell?”

    ”I can see the string..”

    @Perdix ;

It flew off into one of the trees shortly after the photos were taken yesterday.

But it didn't make it through the night.
    :(

    That's sad.

    Why did it die?
Had it had an accident or wasn't it possible to tell?

Probably just a harsh winter, it's especially tough for juveniles to get enough food to get through the winter.

(Bear in mind one pair breeding over their lifetime needs to leave just a few surviving adult offspring, to keep the population up.)

Sparrow Hawks are only just larger than an adult Blackbird but take down fat Pigeons with ease...

I have had one racing down the garden after a Blackbird and its wings brushed my face at full flight speed!

Seems yours' like a young Kestrel who's been on the Kestrel...

    Why not?

According to this there are 40,000 breeding pairs in the UK, and they are one of our most common birds of prey?

  • According to some of the RSPB experts, chances are the kestrel was taking risks due to hunger caused by the cold snap. If it did hit the window, which I think is highly likely, it may well have been seriously injured as a result.
Poor, little thing. Kestrels are probably my favourite birds.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....
