    Interesting.

I’m now considering applying for a change of name for Margate to Miami.

I think Aylesbury would be much better as Aylesbowie provided Tony Visconti were the mayor and Brian Eno were head of recycling and rubbish collection.
no - Eno would be better in charge of Street Lighting.

The Proclaimers were born in Leith... they should change that to 500 Miles  ~ Twinned with ~ From Nowhere

Bowie as good as he was wouldn't be my first choice for Aylesbury's market square hero...

..... and it shouldn't be renamed after him, as it's a dump.

Never been, but... I wonder when was the last time HE went there?

It's an insult to his name in my opinion. The place must have claim to ONE famous person surely?

Both my brothers live in Aylesbury.  I wouldn't call it a dump, but it's not exactly great.  Still, you're only a stone's throw from plenty of nice countryside.

To me, Marillion are Aylesbury's most famous sons but I don't think any of them were actually born there.  So maybe John Otway should be the guy to get a statue.

Any mention of Aylesbury reminds me of a job interview that I attended at some Maxwell-controlled print firm.

The band I think of as linked to Aylesbury is Marillion!
Their connection was entirely to do with The Friars - a venue noted for giving Prog Rock bands somewhere to play. King Crimson have used it for pre-tour warm-up shows before now.
