Would Relicing work in other industries?

Perhaps I could have tools that have been reliced so my shiny tools are not mocked for a lack of use.

Well, there's always "Shabby Chic" furniture or room decor, and jeans that look only fit for a tramp (and that's before you buy them) ... they're already doing it

Definitely furniture, and some of it's even more hilarious than a Joe Strummer Tele.

I was admiring a sideboard a while ago which had an obviously jigged woodworm hole pattern with repeats every 18" or so, like a Tom & Jerry chase scene.

I've seen it in cars, in fashion, in furniture, in home decor, art, loads of areas do this.

Guitars are fairly unique in that there are very few industries where the products don't get inarguably better as time goes by.

You might want a fifty year old car, but you wouldn't want one to do two hours on the motorway every day.

They are also fairly unique in that old valuable examples have been beaten to buggery by years of gigging, the life of a 300yr old classical instrument has generally been gentler, even in Mozart's time it was probably unusual to twat a stage invader with a violin.  Might have been hard to resist twatting Mozart one though.

Old wine bottles look very cool indeed, as do old wine crates.

Ratted cars can look excellent! Old beetles and the like.

Jeans covered in paint.. not so much, for me anyway..

I scrapped gouges and holes into a shelf before staining it dark brown once, to give it a rustic look. Quite liked that.
The only easy day, was yesterday...

Sort of relicing - there were a lot of shed break ins at the allotments my friend Steve uses. He had to replace all his tools but then painted them all pink. Next time there was a break in his didn't get stolen.

Furniture, clothes, those people who drive 4x4s and take the bottom panels off so you know they do real tough off roading.

Lots of parallels between guitars and watches.

‘Aged' lume and pre-patina'd dials are one of the flavours of 2018, and this is the equivalent of a blow-torched eBay Squier...

I'm not sure all guitars are guaranteed to get better over time.

I'm sure electric guitars don't really ... they were made differently and people seem to prefer the sound of them.  There will be some changes in wood density etc, obviously ... but in an electric guitar how much difference does that realistically make?

Acoustic guitars are obviously more significantly changed by age and, to my ear, definitely sound better with age.  Would I want a "relic" looking like Willie Nelsons?  F*** no

Well, I think we've disproven the "inarguably" bit.
