Composition Challenge #2 "Drone"

You mentioned Terry Riley, how about something that's inspired by Steve Reich? Would phasing and/or pulse music come under drone music, or does there have to be a constant, drone tone going on?

I think pulses could be ok, I don't think it has to have a constant repetitive drone as such it could kinda meander a bit.

At the end of the day its the members of the forum that decided the winner so if they like it they like ;-)

I'm actually finding this a little more difficult than I thought, as soon as I add a little melody or vary the rhythm it starts to sound like a conventional song rather than a drone.

I totally understand what you mean, the same thing happens to me. After a while you just have to go with the flow and just enjoy where the music creation takes you.

I'm trying to do an iPad only track.

I've got as far as the drone track, which I rather like.  Now I'm wondering whether extra tracks would just spoil it.

Maybe listen to some classical Indian ragas for inspiration - very melodic but built upon drone tonalities. Or some of George Harrison's raga inspired tunes for something a little closer to home?

Thanks. That was done with the reverse function on the TC Electronic Ditto x2.

Put this Drone together, took about 20mins. Sorry there's no effects, it's just the guitar plugged into the PC.

First time I've joined in one of these, and I don't think we are (now I've read the rules again).
