  • We have been playing board games through the summer hols

The most liked ones were Scene It Disney Magic Moments, Cluedo, Trivial Pursuits, and AtmosFear, although that's probably not great for just 2 people.

Can't beat a bit of Scrabble, also Pictionary and Othello were quite good.

Scrabble's ace. I used to play Othello as a kid and loved it.
Try Backgammon, it's a great game for 2.

Monopoly: It's always guaranteed to start a row.  I think that should be the full title of the game.

My favourite rule for causing emotional distress:

    BUYING PROPERTY

Whenever you land on an unowned property you may buy that property from the Bank at its printed price. You receive the Title Deed card showing ownership. Place the title deed card face up in front of you. If you do not wish to buy the property, the Bank sells it at through an auction to the highest bidder. The high bidder pays the Bank the amount of the bid in cash and receives the Title Deed card for that property.
Any player, including the one who declined the option to buy it at the printed price, may bid. Bidding may start at any price.

Scrabble is one of those things that is arguably better, or a bit different anyway, if played on something like an iPad. Whereas Monopoly is pretty awful played in digital form as you can't ignore the rules. @handsome_chris making a good case in point. I haven't played it for a bit but Upwords was a decent Scrabble variation and much more reliant on tactics than word knowledge. Clearing some stuff out in the garage yesterday I found a Doctor Who version of Top Trumps which I might have to play this weekend. Not exactly a board game but I have always liked them.

  • Should we be pushing for a forum based version of Monopoly.

    Chance cards like

NGD: You visit your favourite boutique guitar shop. Pay the banker £2000 but tell your wife it only cost £1000.

    Or:

Sporky has banned you for swearing. Go straight to Banishment. Do not pass go, do not collect £200

    We often play

    Chess
    Mastermind
    Scrabble
    Cluedo
Monopoly - but less often as my Wife gets really competitive.
The Lego games - Creator, Minataurus, Ramses Pyramid, UFO Attack, Graveyard
    Operation

also card games - made interesting by finding new ones to play.

A sig-nat-eur? What am I meant to use this for ffs?! Is this thing recording?

There is a Make-your-own-Opoly, and Mrs. Stoo made it into a Guitar-Opoly for me, which is nice.

Some similar type chance cards in there.

  • Risk

Other board games I like have already been mentioned.

Is Twister strictly speaking a board game?
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
