Think the rickenbacker 330s have good access

Good shout - I wasn't aware of those - will add to the "check them out" list

Tele Thinline is as hollow as most fixed bridge hollow guitars - myriad options for necks and pickups.

    Hi Mark

I've owned and played my PRS Hollowbody + piezo for many years now - Might well be played more than any other guitar I own- I've not played the new SE version, but based on other PRS SE's I've played then it has to be well worth trying out

Not sure if the SE comes with a plain or wd 3rd, but the bridge intonation can be changed as required - The USA models used to be shipped with a set of 11's and a wd 3rd, so if the SE is similar, then such a factory set-up will feel a bit peculiar to many on first test - I run mine now with 10-52 and a plain 3rd

Not sure what style of music you intend to play on it - It can handle rock - Didn't Incabus use them for a while - But I'd say in the main, then the cleaner the voice the better it works - More Steely Dan and less JoBo - More BB King and less Vai - great for 50's style rock n roll+ swing etc - I suppose also what level of volume you intend to run it at - Low volume and hi-gain, then no issues ie home etc, but large stage + gain + a loud rig then you would probably not find it ideal

Very easy to play - the actual neck and your left hand just feels like it is playing any nice 22 fret PRS - Think they all offer the wide/fat profile with MJ frets

I love mine - It suits what I play

Something else just prompted me to go look at the Musicstreet website. There's a disproportionate amount of wallet-emptying pre-loved hollowness there at the moment: porn here

That's only an hours drive away - might go and check them out soon. Thanks!
I played one of the s/h Hollowbody II's at Musicstreet at the weekend. Very nice guitars. Really light and sounded good.

You could look out for a used Vox Virage.  Pretty sure they tick all your boxes and you can find single or double cut models

Some nice stuff but, wow, the prices!  The Vintera Tele is more expensive than new, for instance.  Also, considering the recent thread, there's a worrying amount of "as new" in the descriptions.

I guess someone has to pay for the nice photos.

Not the Walnut one with an unvarnished maple fretboard. :)

The piezo version of the PRS SE is now out, much prefer the binding on that vs the cheap plastic looking stuff on the current hollowbody II. Might need a visit to a guitar store!

A standard USA PRS Hollowbody is great but has a lacquered neck, which is a shame. You’re into wood library and private stock, otherwise, to the best of my knowledge - which is very expensive. And for that money, I’d 100% be commissioning a UK build. Which is exactly what I’m doing :)

  • Just a note on bookmatching maple - I've seen this a lot recently. Bookmatched tops don't necessarily look like there is a mirror down the middle, the top is opened like a book. I don't fully understand the mechanics, but this often leads to the other side looking slightly different because... Well, it is a bit.

I saw one top someone on Facebook insisted was a terrible book match because where it was dark on one side it was light on the other - but the grain shape was absolutely identical, so I think the bookmatching itself was flawless, it just happened to not look good...

Personally, I'd look at used Gibson or a nice ibanez :) yummy.

Probably on a par with the GraphTech Ghost and whatever the Fishman Powerbridge equivalent is.

GTG is approximately £200 for a complete piezo-loaded wraparound bridge or £80 for a Tune-o-matic to cannibalise. The pre-amp PCB is another £125 or thereabouts.

You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.
