The one guitar (or three) that you just can’t put down...

There is always one guitar, when it’s in your hands you just keep on noodling, to the point of driving everyone else crazy.

You just can’t put it down...

Which one is that, for you?

Mines a '99 PRS McCarty.Goldtop with P90's. Has a great feeling neck, woody sounding clean and plenty of bite from the P90's with a bit of amp grit.......

    '79 -'81 Westbury Standard.
Plugged or unplugged its such a comfortable guitar to play.
The wife says it looks like a '70s sideboard, the bloody philistine.

I've had a lot of guitars over the years that I thought were 'the one'  ,,, but ultimately they weren't. I'm pretty certain that this one is, my wonderful self-made strat. It lives in a soft case that is permanently unzipped all the way down so I can just slip it out every time I enter the room.

I've been getting pretty good of late at sharing the love.  My biggest problem is chosing which guitar I'm going to be taking back into rehearsal in the, hopefully, not too distant future (I like to stick to one guitar for the full set).  For the first band, who tune to Eb, I keep going back to the Strat although the PRS Studio 22 may be in the running.  For the new band (in standard tuning) I'm thinking the PRS S2 semi-hollow (although the Studio is again in the running).

At the moment, the couch electric is this Snorkeldick Signature Model. I've spent the last week recording with two LP's, a Gretch 6120 and a Tele, so I thought I should balance that up with something blingy and uncool.   Actually the regular neck on this 20 year old guitar ( complete with dings and bucklerash ) is perfect for messing about with through my living room Fender pro reverb.

My current can't put down acoustic is my Lowden O32, which is also about 20 years old. I have just fallen in love with it again and now remember why I used to gig it so much

I was supposed to be doing some work on this for sale, but it's just so addictive to play I'm going to buy it myself...

I did own it before, some time ago - but it was never quite right then, it had a different neck pickup and although I thought it sounded good it wasn't right for me. The pickup that's in it now is not normally one I like either, but in this guitar it just works.

This, only because I've just got it back after lending to a mate for just over a year. Categorically an absolutely shite guitar (most valuable part is probably the Hipshot tuners!), but it's just a novelty and big contrast to my SG. After a year of only playing SG this feels way too far over to the right, neck joint is horrid and clunky and I'm going for everything past the 12th fret a few frets flat. Still it's different and needs a good clean and setup which will give me something to do!

    Has to be this Rivolta.
The gloss neck is a pain as it’s grabby and I need to silk it but even still I can’t stop playing it.
It makes me enjoy all settings on the amp and all positions on the pickup switch even the tone control is usable in all positions.
It’s so sweet sounding clean and aggressive with gain. It’s lightweight and I love it.

Yes. After I had it a few months I wasn't really getting on with it as much as I expected, and a good friend really liked it so I sold it to him. Sadly he passed away late last year and I've been helping his family sort out his guitar collection. I thought it would be more sellable with a more 'conventional' pickup in the neck than the Fralin P92, and I had a Duncan Jazz lying around.

What's odd is that I don't really like overly light guitars, I don't really like the neck profile, I don't like wraparound bridges, I don't like the Duncan Jazz and I don't really like the '59B (or it might be a Pearly Gates, I've never been sure) either! But somehow the guitar is just amazing... it's incredibly touch-responsive and just 'musical' sounding. I had been trying to talk myself out of buying it back, but I've given up now.

Firstly my condolences on the loss. Sometimes what we don’t like on parts or on paper just works for us in real life it seems.

Totally upgraded '97 Squier Affinity Strat. Replaced everything hardware and electronics wise and plays just as nice or if not better than an American Standard at half the cost!

Also my main band guitar the Gibson Les Paul studio in drop tunings.

I don't really play enough of any of the others I got to add a third to the list!
