Ah ok. Sorry I misjudged the intention of the comment.
No worries. The Automatone Preamp MKII could actually be the missing link for Kemper amp owners, as the current built-in drives are it's blind spot. I think we are going to see a lot more of this digital and analogue convergence as we move forward.
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

A well-written review with great graphics (all those hours making slides for the day job has finally paid off). I concur with others that it’s time we hear some audio. Put the ox box to good use and let us hear what you hear.

Only had 30 minutes but I really like it. Very wide range of sounds including some savage ones if you want. Presets are a mixed bag as always but the Klon esque one is pretty close to my ears with a little tweaking even more so. I think this would will be enough for me. Just need to settle on a combined reverb/delay and modulation then get them all linked with my MC6.

Warren’s reviews are like Wordsworth’s The Daffodils reimagined
Warren’s a bit better than that. Reimagined without Wordsworth's self-indulgent whingeing, maybe, I can't fucking stand Wordsworth (there's a topical cultural reference for you).
I wandered lonely as a gear whore, who floats on high o’er the classifieds section, when all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden low to mid-gain overdrive pedals

I'm so grateful that I have very little interest in boost/drive/etc. pedals, such a waste of money!*

I'm sure it's a nice enough unit..but at £850 the Preamp Automatone MkII is a hell of a lot of money for a distortion unit with EQ.  I'll stick with my Pod Go thank you, which is less than half the price and offers a neck of a lot more. For less than £850 you could buy a brand new Helix LT or for around £550-600 you could find a good used one.

I'm not knocking this pedal, but it's definitely one for distortion purists and audiofiles who feel it's worth the money. But I'm not one of them.  And I'd be astounded if it was noticeably better than a ton of other distortion pedals out there in a totally distortion flooded market, or even the Pod Go, Helix LT etc.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

don't think so,  irrespective of @Wazmeister oft glowing reviews and subsequent sales of said pedals, its a good contribution he makes, especially the classifieds :) , bit cheesy, but hey who doesn't love cheese. thanks Warren I always enjoy the read, appreciate the effort and have, over the years on here, been pointed in the right direction quite a few time by your goodself.

thing is, if we didn't have people trying out the next big thing, and there is no shame in loving them all, we would be a little poorer :) for it.  or not as the case may be

The constant jibes about your turnover of gear bores the bollocks off me to be frank.

Meh, I take the mickey because I am just as bad with my turnover of gear.

    1) Irrespective of how you perceive it’s value it’s a premium product that does offer quite a lot for its money.

    2) Because you feel that’s best for you doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone else.

    3) Why didn’t you take this advice instead of buying the POD Go?

    4) Better is subjective as I certainly wouldn’t waste my money on a POD Go or another Helix as they weren’t for me but I don’t think anyone is wrong to purchase one as I don’t like them.

    Same.

I have zero interest in a Pod or a Helix. Whereas if I had cash I would deffo give this a go.

Well this is funny how this NPD post has turned out.

Personally I like reading @Wazmeister new gear day posts. I mean, let’s be honest we are all relatively fickle over gear in here. We are nerds for guitar gear so having someone enthusiastic about gear is great.

I must say I don’t think Warren will mind the light hearted banter about the classifieds too much. He’s far from the only one on this forum guilty of selling something that he once loved. Chances are the majority of NGD posts are followed by a FS post of the same item. Actually I’d love to see a stat for that.

This pedal is interesting, it’s not one for me personally as I don’t know what I’d do with it. That being said I read lots of R9 posts on here too and I’d never buy one of them either.

I like the look of this but my concern would be that irrespective of how tweakable a pedal is, a pedal has a fundamental sound, not it’s eq necessarily, as that can obviously be vastly altered on this, but more in its feel compression, dynamics etc. All 4 of my drive pedals are VERY different in their fundamental characteristics, can this really replace multiple pedals?

Having owned the benson preamp, I did really think it was an awesome pedal.

So... I don't doubt that this one is as amazing as people make it out to be, however I predict you might be putting it up for sale in the near future  B

Nowt wrong with Waz. And he tests the water for us all, which in my book give him a fair few cool points.

  • I think this pedal is something else.

Thanks for the review Waz, that certainly wasn't thrown together in 2 minutes.

I appreciate being informed by in-hand reviews like this, almost as much as watching someone take a hefty punt and getting it right.

    I think it's called a win-win.

    Good on yer Mate.
    Cheers Paul...

My reviews certainly seem to 'rattle' some people; maybe they are too positive, and/or Ive become the 'establishment' which means, naturally, I need pulling down (like an old statue...) =)
I wouldn't worry too much about rattling people Warren, unless of course their approval of the way you go about your business is important to you.

The constant jibes about your turnover of gear bores the bollocks off me to be frank.

Let me ask you a straightforward question - have you ever made any money out of this "community" on a single listing, any listing?

It seems to me that you take a kick in the bollocks on every item you turn over. You recycle a lot of gear, and have not only accepted that there is a personal cash cost to that, but you continue to share your thoughts on this relatively expensive stuff with us, the great unwashed, and then you offer us this gear at significantly reduced prices...you're nowt but a cheeky fooker in my opinion.

I for one do not specialise in staring gift horses in the mouth.

You're like a breath of fresh air Waz.

    Well fuckin said.

Humans are different from each other and don't understand other humans and how they are magically different too.

I have owned pedals for years and love them, but could never write a gushing review and would need to add minor criticism to give context for other players as to pros/cons

Waz writes reviews that don't criticise and he can love a pedal and then move it on while still being enthused.

That makes no sense in my brain, but I dont think there is any deception involved. And while it feels like watching an unusual animal he's just probably genuinely being himself. Even if it involves using cringey words like "game changing" :)

    Keep buying nice gear mate
