have now spent 6 hours with the Automatone….some truly great sounds in here, I do wonder whether a good eq pedal combined with the Benson preamp would give me the essence of this pedal.  At its core there is an  amazing sound ,  3 banks pf presets are handy for dialling in each pick up position to sound great with this pedal.....I haven't tried the expression pedal at all...I think a great wah is going to be better by a country mile.

I think mine is getting returned tbh….I am going to try the benson preamp and said eq pedal...that's what i really love about this pedal,  amazing drive tones

    Not sure if serious :-)

If so, I kind of know where you are coming from because I thought the same thing myself, i.e spend £250 on a Benson pedal and then combine with other EQ and fuzz pedals.

The placement options on the automatone are good though, and by the time you've added up the cost of the other pedals you're not a million miles away from this one.

If you already have the other stuff though, I guess that's less of a factor.

Mine is staying, but I could always justify spunking on a Benson as well haha.

Will probably preserve that budget for a big trees one day in the future.....
    still pondering:)  tbh

I saw the title of this thread and settled down to read a review of the Origin RevivalTrem.

So, slightly disappointed, to be honest...

I loved the Hudson Broadcast, but struggled with the lack of tone control to tame the high end. I thought the Benson Preamp would be the answer to my prayers, but I found it a bit meh compared to the Broadcast. Hmmm.

Ooof, those Benson amps just look so cool. Great aesthetics. I've been salivating over the pics on Instagram for yonks. Don't know anyone in the UK that's got one though. The Ryan Adams endorsement seemed to end quickly...

I really like the sound of the pedal, to my ears, it makes my brass saddled tele sound like its got steel saddles on, and it is a great sound and a nice option to have

but @Lebarque you are right the Broadcast does a similar thing, I do love to have a pedal that really "hears" your playing and responds accordingly..for better or worse...having a bit of gain on always can really sharpen up my playing, and I need it , its a great discipline cos there isn't a saggy get out clause

I've settled on the Thorpy Warthog for now and have just posted a gushing thread. Don't dismiss it as just a 'distortion'. Anyway, I'm off to start a Benson porn thread..,.

Agree, but kind of like the quirkiness, warts and all. There's no mistaking them for the standard MXR-style enclosure. A bit of personality.

Ps. @mgaw and I seem to be having a bit of a Fri night love-in. Have you had a few beers too?

Thorpy’s pedals might not be the prettiest but that functional shape is a godsend on stage. Indestructible build quality and more importantly no risk of your settings getting accidentally knocked. For those reasons and the fact it also happens to sound great, The Dane is my main overdrive for gigs.

I’m also a big fan of the Benson Preamp, I use mine as a very light drive on my home board, the EQ just brings everything to life. Not sure I could ever justify the huge price difference for the chase bliss when I have the base tone already.

I would agree with that, the benson preamp is the sound, the rest is farting about imo   I just cant fucking cope with the shape of adrians pedals      that's autism folks
