I'd take that list any day and completely agree with the EVH comment.

However, whilst I really like him, I could replace Michael Landau with Nile Rodgers or Andy Summers or Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson

    Nice one Wayne

    In no order:

    Dave Gilmore
    Mark Knopfler
    Lindsey Buckingham
    Gary Clarke Jr
    Steve Stevens

Although if I thought about it for more than 2 minutes, I could probably come up with some "cooler" less mainstream ones.

Landau is probably one of my “mood dependant” guitarists who could quite easily drop out of the top 5 - I actually put down pre Still Got the Blues Gary Moore in that spot to begin with...

Robbo as well should have been there too.

Perhaps is should be a top 10!!

    Steve Cropper
    Johnny Marr
    Prince
    Nile Rodgers
    James Wilsey

Honourable mentions for Robert Fripp (but only on Bowie records), Adrian Belew (but only on Talking Heads records) and Neil Young.

  • Chuck Berry is conspicuous by his absence here but off the top of my head : Vernon Reid. T Bone Walker. Wes Montgomery. Grant Green. Russell Malone.

Glad to see Tommy Iommi getting his dues. Wasn’t in my 5 but probably should have been.

Also interesting to see Grant Green and Wes Montgomery pop up several times. Been getting into those two (and Kenny Burrel) recently. Some cracking albums between them.

Interesting to see very few mentions (or even none?) for Joe Pass and Derek Trucks... Might have missed some though.

It's weird in that when I listen to either I'm completely in awe, and would potentially trade a minor organ to be able to play like them. Just utter mastery (and a tone to die for in the case of Trucks). Yet I wouldn't put them on my list as I don't think I've been influenced by their music overall. Funny how that works!

    In no particular order:
    Wilko Johnson
    Bernard Allison
    John McGeoch
    Hubert Sumlin
    Jimi Hendrix

But why narrow it down to just 5?
I can think of a dozen more I like just as much.
