Hopefully that works, one or two may not be the right versions and I didn’t know what I was doing looking for some of the classical stuff. Anyway, it’s put off washing up for ten minutes and it might be useful if you’ve got some ironing to do.

    Simple Minds - Waterfront

The greatest bassline ever written... one note, you can play it with one string and one hand, it's the same all the way through the song - and you know what song it is in the first bar.

I suspect this song has quietly slipped from air play but I thought it was great at the time.
I remember this, it was spelled out in look in magazine with an explanation
There’s an episode of Modern Life is Goodish where Dave Gorman talks about the word ( name of a place in New Zealand?) for some reason and I’m shouting at the telly ‘like in the song Lone Ranger!’ but Dave never references it. Made me sad.

I kinda think most songs have good intros, a lot of effort goes in there. Anyway, here’s one for the mod and ska nights:

Toto - Rosanna - Drummers spend hours just trying to get close to what is going on with that laid back funky rhythm

Stevie Wonder - Living for the city - Love that chord intro arrangement and simple groove

    Stevie Wonder - Superstition

Stevie Wonder - Mr Blaster - starts simple, add a bit more and a bit more will just grooving out

  • Blur - There's no Other Way
Good shout - when that opening riff came through the speakers in an indie club everyone knew exactly what song it was after the first 2 seconds. Genius guitar player and unusual riff-meister Graham Coxon is.
