Breakages are normally caused by binding at the tuning peg or bridge. Very rarely the string itself.
Only thing I don't like about 9s is they're too bendy.
9s on Strat/Tele Fender scale. 10s on 335 and Les Paul. Thinking of going 9s on the Gibson-y ones as well but I'd expect that to be too sloppy. Maybe 9.5s
