I know it wasn't cool to like The Monkees back in the day but I was never too bothered about what was or wasn't cool.
I particularly liked this song.
Nice to see two of them are still alive and at it:

I'm sure I had a Monkees toy car when I was just a little lad, an estate car - or is my memory playing tricks on me?

    Ah, merchandising!
    Whatever happened to that?
You never see much merchandising these days.

Always loved The Monkees. First as a little kid, watching the TV show and just thinking it was funny. Then as a guitar-playing grown up, realising they made (albeit with some assistance) some really great music.

You never see much merchandising these days.
It used to be that toy companies would make merch based on the popular tv shows.

Now they make the toys they make tv shows involving them to sell them.

Kind of heart breaking after a life of avoiding as much consumerism as possible that I've had to buy in to it so my toddler doesn't miss out.

Another monkees fan, Mary Mary, pleasant valley Sunday, d w Washburn, Valleri. Great stuff.

I have a vision in my head of America ingrained from watching the monkees I think. Hence I’m never going there as it won’t live up to it.

  • I'm in as well!  Me and my buddies watched the TV show, bought the records, used their jokes on each other, the whole bit.  In the 80's the band I was in covered "Last Train to Clarkesville", people sang along, people danced.....

I had a Monkees book, a hard-cover comic like the Beano annual.
