    Some great tunes here.

There's a whole style of music with that descending bass over a single chord thing. Don't know what it's called. Super trendy in the 60s - and (no idea) but suspect it was championed by the beatles.

Rialto are a modern band that do it. Check them out - no idea if they're on spotify, but definitely on apple music.

Their feature film 'Head' is a psychedelic gem!

Fantastic soundtrack, bonkers script, it was a statement of sorts by the band trying to escape the 'teenybop/ bubblegum' tag - they'd always been in conflict with the show producers to have more input in terms of music and performance on their records. If you haven't seen it you should!

Also a nice cameo from Frank Zappa

Their film was panned when it first came out but it's since become a cult classic so I'll have to search it out.

Never let it be forgotten that, for a few UK shows in 1967, The Monkees headlined above the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

    Wild, man.

    Much to Jimi's disgust.

There are a couple of interesting films about The Monkees.

One was a documentary with lots of talking heads, it occasionally turns up on one or other of the Sky channels. The other was a biopic which was a bit sugary in places but not too bad.

Loved The Monkees.  Had the Corgi toy.  Jellyfish filled the void the left in the early 90s with the albums Bellybutton and Spilt Milk.  If you don't know them, check them out - especially Bellybutton.

Bellybutton is a great fun album. Digging the Monkees comparison - never would have thought of it but it's damn apt.

Porpoise Song is my favourite. Also was a play out track for a later episode of Mad Men.

I know it wasn't cool to like The Monkees back in the day but I was never too bothered about what was or wasn't cool.
    I particularly liked this song.
Nice to see two of them are still alive and at it:

Kind of weird they were on the same bill.

Standard operating procedure for the time. 'Package tours' of light entertainment featuring a variety of performers of varying types.
The Beatles on tour with Max Bygraves, a magician, a troupe of dancing girls, and a ventriloquist: The Rolling Stones on tour with Wilson, Kepple and Betty, Val Doonican, a sword-swallower and a performing dog, etc.

Same sort of format that used to fill Saturday night shows and Sunday Night At The London Palladium... although I suspect you may not be ahem 'mature' enough to remember them. Lucky sod!
