Which model Civic do you have @Emp_Fab?

I'm pretty sure that the rattle was a standard feature on some of them.  It was a special design feature intended to keep the drivers awake.

I've got the 2.2.  I've worked out that it's heat related - sort of.  If the car has been in the sun and the dash is warm, it rattles.  If it's cold - no rattle.  Once I find my USB endoscope, I'm going to look inside the air vent ducting in case there's a small coin or something lodged in there.

I FOUND IT !!!!!!!!!!!!  It's a small bit of loose plastic trim on the top edge of the wing in the engine bay !!!   It was nothing to do with the dashboard at all !!
