I upgraded from Nikon to Sony mirror less recently and I don't regret anything. I was always minimal with my gear so I didn't feel trapped in the Nikon sphere when I jumped ship. 

Since you have a Canon, you can also get a Sigma MC11 converter to use those lenses on the Sony E mount, which is what I've done for the Sigma 150-600mm which is originally a canon mount, and it works flawlessly. 

I have a Sony a6000 - an "older" camera too but it's still miles ahead of the Nikon I had before. Brilliant little camera and it's also simple enough with the kit lens on auto that normies can manage to take decent pictures with it too (I'm sure you know the photographer's curse where there are no good pictures of you because everyone else's photos suck)

Really? They seem to still be great value, and they do a hell of a lot that phones just can't.
