Scare yourself - listen to some you haven't listened to in ages, or more than once, or (admit it) at all...

you'd be amazed how many raise a staggering "meh".

Then the culling will be somewhat easier...

I found there are about ten-fifteen bands I love to pieces and still buy their physical media, and the rest I can take or leave alongside new stuff.
For me the deciding factor to get rid used to be ‘do I dislike this?’ - I’ve bought a vast amount of music from charity shops, often on the basis of just whether it looks interesting. That meant I had a large amount of music which I didn’t actually dislike but didn’t actively like either.

When the collection got out of hand I changed that to ‘would I miss this if I never heard it again?’ There’s a significant amount that can go, on that basis - there are a surprising number of albums I’ve found which I thought I liked, but on reflection I couldn’t name a single song on and even after listening again, don’t really hear anything memorable.

There’s now a growing box of rejects... I suppose I could list them here as well, but to be honest I’ll probably just take them back to a charity shop after lockdown.

Don't get judgy - remember, these are the ones which are going.  There may be some more Irish Folk vinyl, but I have to wait until Mrs Cols is out to have a listen to them otherwise she gets all stabby.

    I'll list the CDs later.

I honestly have no idea; at this point I've just made an inventory.  Some of them are evidently rare, others common as muck or maybe just of interest to the enthusiast.  There's nearly 100 records of varying rarity and condition (and the CDs to come), so it'll take a bit of time to figure out costs.

Keep the "top 10, 20, 50 etc", cull the rest, that's what I did. A few I should have kept in hindsight, but no major drama. Happy with my decision. Most of them I had not listened to in years, so only kept the ones I know I will put on and have put on regularly.

I can't speak for anyone else - how much they feel they should pay, or want to pay, but personally I've been boosting my record collection for the last few months, sometimes from my local record shop (South Records in Southend), sometimes new records from Amazon, but mostly second-hand on eBay.  I've spent hours watching the auctions and generally speaking almost nothing sells, so I'm the only bidder.  I exaggerate - but only slightly.  On eBay I only buy records that end up under £10 including postage.  My most recent definitely-second-hand Herb Alpert album had a 25p Salvation Army shop sticker on it, and I paid a total of under £5 for it including delivery.  Although some sellers say they professionally clean all their discs this has proven very far from the truth.  Fortunately I'm happy with surface noise because some of the discs I've bought have been amazingly crackly.

So, your Sparks Propaganda album intrigued me, I searched eBay and there are dozens of these for sale ranging from £110 down to £6.60.  Of these, if I were choosing one, I'd have the patience to wait for the one that is £6.60 where the auction ends in 5 days, and then probably be mildy disappointed when it arrived to find that the sleeve isn't still glued together properly and the disc is gritty.  There are many good reasons why your copy might sell for more than this minimum price.

One thing I've noticed is that some people send discs in purpose-made cardboard sleeves, that are adaptable to containing multiple discs if required, while other people have clearly scavenged for cardboard and used a ton of packing tape, bubble wrap and clingfilm.  Personally I'm lucky enough not to have to deal with selling things - arranging packaging, shipping them to the post office, all that malarky.  But surely if you're selling a bunch of albums the temptation must be to sell bundles of them to minimise legwork.

I found an easy way of unloading my vinyl LP collection. A few years ago we had moved into a smaller bungalow and space was a problem so i took them to a secondhand record shop in the nearby city to sell on commission. There was about 60 LP's and though none of it would be of interest to collectors due to condition there were early Beatles Stones and Who discs. I left them with the owner who said he would have to sell them individually to achieve the best price. I left it about a month and returned to the shop to see how he was getting on with them. The shop was empty, owner gone, no contact details, nothing. At least it was hassle free.

    That's bloody awful.

Maybe he got an astronomical price for them and retired to his own private island?

    £110 seems somewhat aspirational...

Dug it out to have a look at it.  It's the 1974 original; no wear marks on the sleeve and the sticker still attached, but some creases.  The inner is in excellent condition; the vinyl has some surface marks which don't affect playability and aren't audible.

    £10 plus whatever postage is?
