There is no 'H' in Aych, you know that don't you? ~ Wife
Turns out there is an H in Haych! ~ Sporky
Bit of trading feedback here.
First time I've seen it.
Loved it. Great cast, particularly good performance from Jeff Bridges, and I really like that the mystery of the identity of the person on the thing was not revealed. Not everything needs to be explained. The time line of the film allows 2 or 3 educated guesses as to what the answer could be and that's great.
Excellent set design too, had a really good look about it.
8.5/10
I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd
American Assasin - Good but not great . 7/10 (Netflix)
Trial of the Chicago 7 - Excellent courtroom drama , surprisingly fun given the subject matter. 9/10 (Netflix)
I find it hard to score stuff like this but it's currently on 8/10 with imdb and 98% with Rotten tomatoes, very good scores.
The pug is wonderful!
The first (but far from the last) problem is Taron Egerton. At no point did I suspend disbelief enough to think I was watching Elton John rather than a completely different bloke wearing his clothes. And his singing was nowhere near good enough.
I thought Rocketman was truly atrocious, as bad as the Queen film, actually, no, worse.
Slacker Gen X style movie from the mid 90s. Think Waynes World, Airheads, Dazed & Confused etc. In fact, the review tagline on the front cover says ‘Better than Dazed And Confused’. Yeah...that’s not true at all. Two loser metalhead guys try to score with hot chicks and get drunk. That’s the premise. This sucked pretty bad.
Kidulthood / Adulthood / Brotherhood
That’s right, I ran the gauntlet of all three Noel Clarke (yes yes we know the stories) rudebwoi movies about gangs, youth culture and personal development. Remarkably I managed to watch through all of them quite easily, and by the third installment Brotherhood, they did ease up a bit on the old yoot speak which was beginning to drive me insane. Kidulthood is definitely the darkest, but there were some proper comedy moments in Brotherhood.
I can't remember how to do spoiler tags here, otherwise I'd mention it now.

I thought rocketman was alright. I didn't know anything about Elton though and it never really crossed my mind while watching it that he didn't look or sound like the man. For a fan or someone that knows a lot about him it might not hit the mark but as a film in it's own right I actually quite enjoyed it.
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski
"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein
Legend has it (so I don't know if this is entirely true) that after release, Badlands was considered so good, that Malick had free reign from the studios to do anything he wanted.
And then a slightly absurd rumour started he was making a film about a Green Awning. And that the term "Green Awning" became synonymous for creative control.
Big inspiration on tarentino especially true romance which even has the same xylophone piece throughout.
And I quite liked it. I liked the approach, it's more of a musical than a biopic so it matters less if it's historically inaccurate. I never really believed in Taron Egerton as Elton - he looks more like Alan Carr a lot of the time - but I think he has a bloody good stab at the singing. Almost all the actors sing at some point, whether they're any good or not, and they do OK.
It's really just the story of a boy who desperately wanted to be loved... and it doesn't do much more than labour that one point for two hours, but it does so entertainingly enough.
I'll probably have forgotten all about it by tomorrow. But it's definitely better than Bo Rhap.
(Oh, and I never realised it was Bryce Dallas Howard playing his mum!)
