It's a bad sign when you don't know how many you have, right?

What's worse is when you forget one you've just - last week - acquired

Ringleader of the Cambridge cartel, pedal champ and king of the dirt boxes (down to 21)

  • Route 66, Duncan powergrid.

Soon to be getting a big muff or clone of some sort (need advice guys, love frusciante and Gilmour!) and a ds-2 for more fru tones.

The power grid isn't used as a distortion - instead, it is essentially an active 3 band eq with a butt load of signal boost to take a bandit set to slight breakup well into metal territory.

No such thing as too many ;)

    I've only got four:

    Mooer hustle Drive
    ProCo Rat
EHX Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker
DOD Overdrive FX50B - Not on the board, too noisy

    Maybe I need more...

Since getting a Marshall I've used nothing but amp drive. That leaves me with: Bad Monkey Daphon SD-1 clone Screamin Blues Joyo Deluxe Crunch Boss Heavy Metal Behringer Fuzz. The Joyo can go. The rest will stay, because they seem to cover a wide base of sounds, so (I hope!) that's an insurance policy against accumulating more dirt pedals in future.

How do you find the flux drive? Been inteerested in them recently.
It's great. As far as I can remember the first overdrive pedal I've ever tried that doesn't have that annoying 'separation' between the clean sound and the dirt as the signal decays back to clean. Surprisingly, it's at least loosely a 'Tube Screamer'-based circuit too, or at least it uses the diodes-in-a-feedback-loop clipping method. But it doesn't sound like one.

So far I've only used it into a clean amp so I don't know how well it stacks with other dirt - it also likes having the tone controls up full or very close, it sounds much more amp-like like that. It's actually got surprisingly little gain too - even with the knob up full it will clean up from the guitar.

I need to play around with it some more - I only just got it before I went on holiday.

But my live pedal board is just...

I used have 5 on the board, if memory serves me correctly:

    Zoom Ultra Fuzz/Little Big Muff
    Zoom Tri Metal
    Zoom Hyper Lead
    Vox Satchurator
    EHX English Muff'n

I go for 3 now - fuzz, modern filth, vintage filth...covers most bases.  Loads'a dirt is funny though...and I do miss that Hyper Lead, nothing sounded quite like that pedal with a wah in front to get that singing feedbacky thing going so easily.

i am so sad that i'm even going to list them in order of heaviness ...

    ss/bs sparklemotion
    fairfield circuitry barbershop
    field effects manifold drive
    ss/bs mini
    ss/bs fuck
    dr scientist elements
    iron ether qf2
    fairfield circuitry 4 eyes fuzz
    infanem step
    triton sputnik
    ss/bs superpuzzle
    fuzzhugger algal bloom

could possibly add the bearfoot sea blue eq to the start of the list as it breaks up if you max gain it.

i've told myself that is it now, no more drives, got enough of a range.
just going to try out the catalinbread karma suture maybe, as it looks a bit different to what i've already got

Hiya.....I really like it. A huge range of tones in there, and the two modes really offer different feels. I'm still experimenting since it obviously makes a difference with alternative amp settings, and it's that balancing act of finding a point where everything works together.

It was going to be a tossup between the Rufus and Velvet Fuzz, but I didn't get round to trying the latter cos I was really happy with the Rufus and I'm a bit of a Suhr fanboy. I'd still like to try the Velvet Fuzz sometime, just to form an opinion.

Funnily enough the Velvet and the Rufus are top of my fuzz shortlist.

Using a Fuzz Head ATM, but not sure it's exactly what I'm looking for.

Fuzz is a new arena for me, especially since I want to learn slide, and for some reason I have it in my head that fuzz will sound better for me than normal overdrive/distortion.

I trust Suhr gear implicitly, and whilst it can be pricey, I've never once regretted any purchase I've made from the company. I also really like Wampler, but doubt the Velvet Fuzz is required any more....famous last words huh ;-)

I seem to have got sensible and am down to "amp + 3":

    Amp for break-up
BOSS OD2r for crunch (although with the Turbo option, that's technically 2!)
    MonkeyFX ValveSporker for bonkers
    BS DistX for leads

Just waiting for my mid-life crisis to kick in so I can get a mahoosive pedalboard full of fuzzes ;)
