I’m having my own replica Gibson box custom made for me. Will use same NOS cardboard and staples that Gibson use. Will be slightly reliced - I’ll have to post it to myself a few time.

If it has been inspected by the op’s tech (regardless of whether it is a well-respected local luthier or even his mother-in-law for that matter) and certified as a sound repair, who are we to quibble over a little security tape over-spill?

What spec? For me it’s got to be True Historic created with molecular level analysis of authentic old staples and tape. Or a good cardboard era would do nicely too.

Ron Ellis has analysed parcel tape from 1959 using a spectrometer at the nuclear space station where he works and as such has been able to reproduce it with the correct stickiness and number of neutrons, which most other makers get wrong.

Makes all the difference on a project like this but it's $500 up front and an 18 month wait as his main job is as a cosmonaut and he has to commute to the moon and back every day leaving little time for tape making which is his favourite hobby despite being a billionaire.
