    Those hardware requirements aren't necessary.

For my testing purposes I installed Windows 11 as a VM in VMWare workstation with no virtual TPM. And on an i5 4690K. It runs fine (expected slower in a VM, but comparable to other VMs I'm running).
Does your "host" machine have TPM ? Or are you using ESX ?

For what it's worth, the second update makes AMD CPU performance even worse. Cache latency was bad enough at 10ns with the initial release, now it's 17ns.

MS have always had a close relationship with Intel.  Didn't they delay the release of 64 bit Windows until Intel had a 64 bit chip on the market, even though AMD had a 64 bit chip a good while before?

    Me neither.

I never intended to for the first month or two anyway.  It's never good to be an early adopter of a new OS.  There will always be some issues.

This thread actually has me thinking of my next move in terms of future proofing my audio production setup...but I won’t be making any moves until everything’s settled with the new OS.

I don’t use Windows features much. I switch off all the personalisation search cortina and and spy bollocks and mostly use browsers and web services and audio stuff. I really don’t give a toss what it looks like as long as it runs my software. I hate all the fanfare bullshit. It’s just an operating system.

Windows 11 is part of the pollution problem. We have to throw away our computers as some are incompatible.

My perfectly working i7 CPU 980 (Quad core) ,24 gigs of ram, SSD drive computer is not compatible with windows 11.

Surely this should be brought up and made aware of these polluting companies.Apple is just as bad!
That is quite a beefy machine. Try dual booting with Linux. Not everybody's cup of tea but you never know.

I gave a laptop away to someone, installed Linux, skinned it with a Windows 10 theme and showed him how to install software from the "Apps Store". So he had, Chrome, Gimp, WPS office, youtube Downloader etc. Everything works 100% and for a year all working until Wi-fi stopped working (he had knocked the button). His son inlaw deceided to re-format the laptop and stick WIndows 10 on it.... Worked out that the button had stopped working and got him backup online. Except one of the apps his son inlaw installed had malware on it, so he rings me back and said that laptop you gave me has a virus? It cant I said as I have installed Linux !!!

Oh and how do I get back all my documents.... I said speak to your son inlaw he's the IT expert, isnt he ?????

anyone remember trying to install a driver for a no-mark printer in DOS 6?
I think I was 9 years old
I wasn't much older, but the job still fell to me as the only one in the house who had an interest in tech. By the time I got to a work setting I think we were on Win 98 which I guess you could call an improvement :)
I remember everyone sticking with Win 98SE because everyone hated XP.. for ages.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, nothing changes.

Eventually they will either fix any issues with Windows 11 (I've found no major ones yet, but still testing it before pushing it out to my users) and it will become a well used version (98SE, 2000, XP, 7, 10) or it will become one of the unloved versions that get quietly forgotten (ME, Vista, 8, 8.1...).
You are the dreamer, and the dream...

As I recall, the reason everyone stuck with 98SE was because Me was useless, 2000's interface was still too NT-like and - to begin with - there were still a lot of games that only ran in a proper DOS environment, which wasn't available in the NT-family versions of Windows. That pretty much evaporated as soon as the first true GPUs came out and there weren't any useful drivers for the DOS-based Windows family.

Oh, and businesses who'd cheaped out on their software development and couldn't run any of their core business apps on anything newer than DOS 6.0 ;)
