Justin Hawkins Rides Again [YouTube]

What's Hot
duotoneduotone Frets: 1025
Didn’t realise that Justin had a YouTube channel until it popped up in my ‘recommended’ list yesterday.
If you are interested in songwriting & song analysis, this should be right up your alley.

    I think it's a recent thing.

He is refreshingly honest and quite knowledgeable

It's strange, for many years he's annoyed me by always being "in character", always taking the piss... on this channel he seems to be quite serious and I find it unnerving.  Sorry Justin, you can't win with me.

  • This channel gives me the shits.
Love The Darkness but can’t stand to listen to his ramblings about pop stars and mainstream shite.

I always hated The Darkness and his ‘cartoon’ persona - but have enjoyed his YouTube ramblings…

Thanks for the link, I watched a few of them last night, he’s an interesting and intelligent bloke although I don’t thunk I need to watch more

Also stumbled across this complete gig from the opening night of the current tour

    https://youtu.be/zLvxWQzmvIA

They sound on great form although I am not sure about opening with a fairly fussy new number. The audience seem a bit static and I was surprised a little by the bareness of the stage. I guess bands at this level must have really struggled through the pandemic  and money is a bit tight.

I find the ‘just taking the piss’ viewpoint puzzling since almost all rock bands have something daft about them, the Darkness know this and don’t pretend otherwise.
This is the truth from hillbilly guitars!

I have found myself quietly enjoying these. Initially I thought I would get really wound up by his ‘greetings stout yeoman of the bar’ vocab, he has actually toned this down and actually he offers his own views on stuff. He is actually quite positive and takes the piss a little from time to time. Enjoyable and recommended

I’m definitely in the camp of finding Justin’s YouTube really enjoyable. It took me a while to warm to them, but it’s pretty quirky and endearing...

Yeah, that one is brilliant. He throws just enough shade on Barlow, while still being kind of respectful.

He really is a master in the art of sarcasm.

This vid is laugh out loud funny too.

  • I've only recently discovered Hawkins' YouTube channel and was similarly ambivalent. However, his deconstruction of whatever it was that DJ Khaled was trying to do had me in stistches simply because he tries so hard to be outwardly positive throughout. I don't think I'll ever hear Love will tear us apart the same way again.

I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

    mainstream shite.

I’m not sure that Chopped In Half by Obituary is mainstream, but each to their own.

  • I used to enjoy the channel but he is becoming too prolific and the videos a bit samey. His YouTube persona also runs a bit too close to Alan Partridge for comfort IMO.

  • I dip in and out of his YT vids and really quite enjoy the format and his take on stuff old and new, shit and good.
