Ambient music recommendations

What's Hot
Hi all, can the collective knowledge of this forum recommend some synth based ambient music for me to listen to. I particularly like stuff like the original Blade Runner soundtrack, the new Dune soundtrack and Tangerine Dream but I am open to other suggestions.

Daniel Lanois went through a big electronic music/ ambient stage for a couple of albums worth of material. His thing is post-processing and sampling acoustic sources and he's a mean pedal steel player, but check out 2014's "Flesh and Machine" and 2016's "Goodbye to Language".

  • The Orb, Future Sound of London and The KLF's Chill Out are early 90s ambient classics. I'm particularly fond of the Orb's second record UFOrb - some dancey tracks but some lovely panning and genuine width going on.

  • Stars of the Lid, Aix Emm Klemm, JM Trio, Ana Roxanne, Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volumes I and II, Brian Eno's Discreet Music and his LPs with Harold Budd are also lovely. If you're wanting to go deeper, there's ton of stuff out there. Tim Hecker, Emily A Sprague, Harmonia, Chihei Hatakeyama, GAS, Biosphere, Bing & Ruth's last LP, William Basinski... these are just the big hitters. I could go on...

  • Some recent album recommendations:

    Sonmi451: Nachtmuziek
    Snufmumriko: Sekunder, eoner
Sedibus & The Orb: The Heavens
Plant43: From Deep Streams. Spacey, organic synths, perhaps fits the OP's criteria?

Hammock (some, anyway - they kinda flip between ambient and outright post-rock depending on the album)

Good Weather For An Airstrike is a new favourite of mine as well.

Eno & Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts

Not strictly Ambient in the sense that most people use the expression but MASSIVELY influential on late Twentieth Century electronic music.

Tortoise - "Millions Now Living Will Never Die", Talk Talk - "Spirit of Eden", Bark Psychosis - "Hex" (and onwards)  Strictly, all are now considered post-rock (or pre-post-rock... if that makes sense) but took a helluva lot of influences from "proper" ambient.
