I reckon the wood is £150 at the most. Labour will be a huge amount. Final price is ? 2k or more?

You could probably grab it close to that with some low grade choices, or alternatively woods...but even then  it would be hard to get it for £150 these days.

I would say its more likely to be £3-400 for the grades seen here.  Worth remembering a back and side set of some species can come to that alone

Labour should be the bulk of the cost.

As ever with all good things in life. It's not just the guy's time but the years of experience so what he does during that time is done really really well.

I haven't watched the vids yet - I do actually want to watch all but haven't had time

If I thought I could get all the wood for the guitar for the guitar for 400, I would definitely give it a go. I started up a Men's Shed locally and we have a lot of the machinery. The equipment could be made or acquired or borrowed.
Went on the website as suggested but he doesn't sell the wood just the completed guitar from what I can make out.
However, went to https://www.guitartonewoods4luthiers.co.uk/ and I would reckon £400 for the wood. Any other suppliers?

if you can get the materials for that then why not, you can with some shopping around*... but be realistic about the actual cost and end result as its a it more than just the materials. jigs, specialist tool etc can add a lot to the bill.  You can get a great sounding guitar, but its the years of experience that would guarantee that result

    * if going for alternative woods you can do it much cheaper.   As an example, this UK company is starting to offer acoustic wood kits for very little money.

  • Would have to be rosewood back and sides. Good quality pine/spruce or cedar top. Maybe not dreadnought size but big enough to bang out those bass notes and strum hard as well as pick. I did make a wooden kayak from scratch so I'm hoping some of the skills are transferable. Don't mind making jigs, and if any very specialist tools are essential, I'll get hold of them somehow. Got time on my hands and access to a great workshop so I'm convincing mysef it would be a great experience to have a go. Might be a be a better use of my money than buying another guitar.
I wondered if anyone runs workshops building guitars but I guess that would be very expensive.

Watched the final episode last night. Wow, I think this has been one of the best Youtube series I have seen. From blank bits of wood to a rather lovely guitar and only basic cutting machines and hand tools used.

The thing that came accross is the love of the craft, skill and knowledge and not caring that much about the economics of corner cutting and doing it right and his way. Great.
