  • Good call @DrCornelius I am definitely not one of those who never wants to hear Stairway again

Not sure that I can think of one right now but Garcia is the player who most frequently comes out with that note which does it for me
This is the truth from hillbilly guitars!

Tell you what though, if you want a proper (non guitar) note, it’s the last note in Rachmaninov’s Nunc Dimitis. Bb. Listen from about 3:35

Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

  • Hard to disagree with the OP,. but I'll suggest the opening note of Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

As for "when am I ready?"  You'll never be ready.  It works in reverse, you become ready by doing it.  - pmbomb

Any of the notes between 3:15 and 3:19 in this
Or indeed the descending note between 3:22 and 3:24

"Don't Take Me Alive" by Steely Dan - that long released bend just after the opening arpeggio - just filthy!  :)

The sustained note towards the end of We Will Rock You. Great build up to the solo.

Runner up any BB King solo.
Just for laughs the entire solo of I can see for miles by the Who.

I think you have to discount that as it is an iconic four notes, you can't just have the first one!

I don't think it's possible to have 'the one' but in the spirit of the thread I'll include this as being recognisable within milliseconds.

Not the four-note riff.  The F-G bend which happens at 1:55.

See I think that's why I struggle with getting into Pink Floyd if the opening note of the song is 1:55 into the track?

  • For those outside the demographic of "old people who can't see past classic rock" - any of the first notes in the following...

    Oasis - Slide Away
    Muse - Plug In Baby
U2 - With or Without You
War on Drugs - Under The Pressure (where the guitar comes back in after the break - from 5:26 ish below)
