Did you bring any Gibson L5s back? You could probably knock a few out for a profit around here. :)

    I'm there on the 8th :)

Been before, just after 911 it's an amazing City

I was gigg'ing the Spinnaker Tower last week and went up to the highest view point. I looked out and it's nothing to the view you get when you look from the top of the Empire State building. So check that out, and the Sky Ride virtual thing

I did ESB last time I was there in 06, brilliant view, and you can see the Chrysler from there which is lovely.

We did Top of the Rock instead this time to actually get to see the ESB. Well worth it :)

Nice for pictures at this time of the year, but I wouldn't call it the best city. There are too many claimants for that title

  • nice pix, but I'd leave it to other people to go there and take them

Finally finished going through my photos over the weekend. Got about 50 keepers from 700 shots on "film", and 4 or 5 to go on the wall I reckon.

I reckon anyone would find something to love about the place, even my mother in law. When can I go back?

    Leaving Dubai

    Empire State from the Highline

    Russ & Daughters

    Chelsea

    Lady in the Park

    Cops in Brooklyn Bridge

    Spiderman, eat your heart out

And this one isn't a spectacular photo, but it IS Clapton's 1939 Martin 000-42 from the Unplugged concert, on display in the Met for most of this year. I don't go for blingy guitars much (he says, with a Paisley Tele and Gibson Dove at home..), but that one is really something.

    Clapton's old guitar

You're spot on and the cabs are uncomfortable. I used to work there .. great city mind.

  • Yeah, not great, though the cabs we went in were good - big Nissan minivan things with loads of space. Better than the old Crown Victoria town cars, even if those were iconic.

Crown Victoria in my day - I was there between 1998 and 2001.

I was there 2 weeks ago, for the second time.

The Metro is the way to get about, very cheap and very quick.

Obvious things to see are Times Square, 911 memorial, ESB, Central Park, Liberty Island etc but did anyone know somewhere in NY is a space museum with a Space Shuttle prototype ?

    Nice!

  • Indeed there is - Intrepid Air, Sea & Space Museum, on the deck of the retired Intrepid aircraft carrier. The shuttle there is the Enterprise (great name :D) which was used for aerial flight and landing tests but never got as far as space proper. We ran out of time to go unfortunately, but it's a good excuse to go back.

I have to say the Met was not my top priority but I'm really glad we went. Absolutely brilliant museum and we only saw about half of it.

And the Subway is excellent. Not perfect in terms of layout but all the trains have A/C, so it beats the tube any day for me!

I went there on a family holiday in 1999. I was four and my sister was less than 18 months old so neither of us really remember it much, but I'd love to go back. It looks incredible.

  • I went there on a school trip the January after 9/11. I didn't get to see any of the famous landmarks as they were all closed off to tourists. I still loved the city though, especially Central Park. I'd love to go back again and see things as I should have done.

    I went in 2004. It's a great place.

I looked into moving there as my company have an office just over the bridge in NJ, but Mrs B won't leave her mum in blighty.

    Great pics.

Was the lady in the white dress in the 1st pic aware she has a lamp post growing out of her head?

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to
