Funeral Music

What's Hot

I was at a funeral today of a friend of mine. She was a wonderful lady and had always said that she wanted Blue Oyster Cult Don't Fear The Reaper played as her final song, and her boys duly made it so.

Anyways, I laughed out but it made me think what I'd have, probably this;

What about you?

  • I'm not joking. Hopefully a better song will come along before I die, but right now I can't think of anything better. It'd make people laugh, which would make me happy. Some people might want to kill me for making them listen to it again, but I'd already be dead so not my problem. In all seriousness though I'm sorry to hear your friend has passed, my condolences.

    Ah one of those things. She had an awesome sense of humour and left some people smiling with that parting song considering it was such horrible circumstances.

  • My wife is under strict instructions that at my funeral I am having This Mortal Coil's version of Song To The Siren and Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.  If there is time for a third it would be Winter by Tori Amos.  When I was a single guy it use to hands down be Portishead's Roads but it seems a little ill fitting with a wife and kids.  Now just gotta make sure I die before her and I'm sorted.

    My aunt had Edward Woodward's version of The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face... not the obvious version but strangely moving. A lovely honesty in his delivery.

    I'd like something funny but I'm too much of a muso snob to let everyone off.

    About a thousand years ago a really good mate of mine and our drummer died young.  In a glorious cock up he went out not to the tender song at his wedding, (Frankie's "The Power of Love") but the next track on the home made CD... the TV theme from Batman.  Got a laugh.

    Me, I reckon it has to be Spike Millagan's Q theme...

    Followed by two of my favourite songs ever:
    The Congos, "Fisherman"

    And Blondie's "Union City Blue"

    Pop so pure you could go to heaven.

    That makes 2 of us at Funerals today @Deijavoo

    Sorry for your loss, your friend had a good sense of humour though.

    I was at my cousins Funeral today, she had chosen "Babe" by "Styx" for the middle of the service, a weepy one for sure.

    I wouldn't know what I'd want, there is just too much to choose from, damndest thing is that I have actaully thought about it.

    I must need Happy Pills too.

    You too dude. Hope the service went as well as these things can.

    I hadn't actually seen her in years and her boys were my mates in all reality of the matter but it makes you ponder life etc.... She was wonderful lady that will be sorely missed.

    @Deijavoo

    Thanks, it did go well. The people who do the services are very professional and getting it right must be a lot harder than we think.

    I'm glad it was a nice tribute to your friend today and it does make people reflect, it's a good feeling celebrating someones life.

    I think I might just plump for Joe Dolce at my Funeral. I can never take things too serious.

    I've been under instructions from Mrs_g for some time that if she goes first then she wishes to leave to the sound of Meatloaf:
