The Rise and Rise of Wet Leg...

Hopefully this goes better than the old Wet Leg thread...

The two spectacularly charming indie starlets have just followed up last year's "Chaise Longue" and "Wet Dream" with the catchy "Ur Mum" and what looks like a number one album!

Remind me a lot of the fun side of 90s sugary indie pop. and if you don't like that, then you won't like them, but if you do or did, then I think they are really well set up.

How's everyone enjoying them now?

I went to see them at an album launch gig at hmv in Birmingham on Tuesday, they were brilliant. A lot of energy and humour, good songs for me but then again I like the same influences they have so that's not a suprise I guess. I think there were about 60 there so very close. Didn't get to see the pedal boards though!

They did signings of the album afterwards (you had to buy an album to get a wristband, the gig was literally in the shop). They seemed friendly despite signing records being an awful job to do after smashing out a gig. We didn't really say much except thank you and have a nice evening.

I doubt their prettiness hurts their chances of success, but it didn't hurt Liam Gallagher having the big eyes etc. either.

Helps to be good looking in pop music, that's why I work in IT.

Ha yeah, that's the one with the line "you're like a piece of shit, you either sink or float" isn't it. Brilliant

It’s a decent record. Not as good as the Yard Act though. That’s this years record so far.

Am I wrong in seeing internet hype as the step between paying dues and talent show success? 

Wet Leg do seem to be able to write and play a tune or two though, and they're fairly but not entirely generic. So may manage to maintain their appeal if they stay smart. 

I wonder how this will end up....

I really like them, catchy songs and good riffs. Breath of fresh air in many ways, I ordered. copy of the new album on vinyl, just waiting for it to arrive. Looking forward to blasting out in the summer.

I think Rhian has probably paid her dues, she's been around for years as a solo performer before Wet Leg.
