Wilkinson Trem in drop tuning

What's Hot
So after seeing Steve Vai I wanted to give Bad Horsie a try.
Took my Wilkinson Trem equipped shred machine tuned it to drop C and found I can't pull up at all.
So loosened the spring claw got the bridge floating nicely, pulled up a semi tone (about all I can do on this guitar) and the springs fell out.
What's the solution?

Fewer springs with the claw tightened.

Might be difficult if you only have two in at the moment...

balance less spring tension with more string tension  -  heavier/different strings
