New Project: Euclidean Circuits

Hi folks, 

I'm nearly done with my postgrad studies, which ahs been a truly life changing experience for me.
I'm finally getting my arse in gear and releasing some of the music I've written over the years, especially the music I've written on this degree.

Musically it is going to be a mix of Minimal Techno, IDM, Ambient and Experimental electronic music, almost exclusively performed/composed on modular synthesisers.
I'm releasing under the name 'Euclidean Circuits'.

The first release is something I wrote last year called 'Torn Apart' which is on the ambient side of things.
I am still figuring out the social media side of things- I can't get access to some of the accounts until I have a few more releases.

Reddit is a place to post anything TBH...Its been my fastest growing channel so far with just over 500 members in a few months, plus you can post on many other music sub Reddits, and cross post as well...for example this one with 2.4M members might suit you...https://www.reddit.com/r/electronicmusic/

I would suggest Instagram also, also for your You Tube when it gets going you can using something like VidIq to track whats going on in the background.

It has been quite a journey for the last 3 or so years.
Strange that after 30+ years of being a guitarist I've basically left it behind to concentrate on modular synthesis.
I started with half a dozen modules in a small case when I was in Singapore and it quickly expanded as I got more comfortable.

I've always messed around with synths but when working with fixed architecture hardware synths or computers I just don't stay interested long enough.

Modular is this weird mix between having determinative, precise control of the patching process (well beyond what you can get with a fixed architecture synth) but the outcome is entirely less predictable. It is endlessly fascinating, requires a lot of time spent researching and designing systems, developing and practicing techniques.

In many ways it makes no sense at all because, it is so time consuming and laborious, takes up loads of room in the studio and is a total money pit. But it is so much fun and so rewarding. 

Also modular culture is really interesting- audiences are much more tolerant of experimentation, and just want new cool sounds, approaches that haven't been done before.

Just had a listen. I liked it. More coherent than I'd expected - a lot of the modular stuff I've heard has come across as random bleeps and bloops.

That's a relief - I just read my post back and it seems rather negative/rude - sorry. 

When I say I liked it, I mean quite a lot, and enough to add it to my Spotify saved tracks.

Modular seems to have 2 main issues- firstly one of quality control, but that applies to all self producing/self releasing artists.
Secondly the inherent chaos/indeterminacy in the system.

I'm in a similar position where I've pretty much lost interest in guitar and concentrating on electronic although in my case DAWless rather than modular.

My advice to anyone getting into modular is... don't.
Unless you like having a fun new obsession in which case go for it.

That is actually how it was conceived- for a sound to picture task that was part of my Masters degree.

Your other "I'm finished" thread prompted me to come back and listen to this again.

The first time (when first posted) I listened in a rush, and moved on.

This time, the track is on it's third repeat, and I'm wanting to buy the album.

I'll echo what weaver said. That's the thing with modular - it's easy to be taken off into random tangents without condensing things into something cohesive, that's actually listenable. I visit modwiggler a lot and get to hear the best and worst of modular so I know what I'm talking about  Wish I had the ££ to build my own hardware setup, but it turns out there's some pretty cool reaktor vsts that provide a decent emulation.
