Proggy and metally but not prog metal?

Suggestions please; recently I have been enjoying Dvne, The Ocean, The Moth Gatherer, older Lantlos, and Kardashev.

What else is chugtastic, tuneful, and good? I don't mind a touch of the cookie monster, but ideally some clean vocals too.

For anyone wondering, this is what they sound like. It's OK if you don't like them.

Ta, but not my cupasoup. Too prog - to me that just sounds like Ozrics slowed down.

I'm assuming you've already tried him, but just in case

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

I think is looking for bands who are prog and metal but don’t write songs about Lord of the Rings.

    Yes. And with minimal flute.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I will work through. VOLA are very much the right thing too - Inmazes is superb.

do you want modern proggy metal or more classic proggy metal?

er ..... LotR and flute, neither of which have anything to do with prog metal?

Even 'regular' Prog in the 70s only had two LotR songs that I recall, although there were a few songs with 'fantasy' lyrics back then.

I admit that flute was a tad rampant

Elder's new album, Innate Passage, is kind of stoner-post rock-prog and is superb.

I think Octatonic and I were using LOTR as a catch-all for dragon/wizard content.

It's quite possible that prog metal is OK, but it brings to mind overblown songs about Krull with nineteen minute guitar solos. Also I like the occasional major chord or "happy" musical resolution.

Basically the stuff I posted, not Dream Theater.
