Traditionally this is IKEA country. Macro are also quite good for that kind of thing, although you will need to know someone with a Macro card and have a branch in reasonable distance. You could try Home Bargains. We bought some towels from there this year that actually were a bargain. Poundstretcher as well.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

Put on a white shirt a black tie, go to a restaurant and pretend to be a waiter and collect plates from people that have finished their meals...They might need a wash before use though.

I got a complete dining room's worth of stuff (slate placemats, table runner, cutlery and crockery) from B&M for about thirty quid, and it's all still going strong a year or whatever later (except for the bowl that got dropped :/ ) - cheap enough that you can buy a few spares to keep out of harm's way, as thorpy says.

I am still using the same tin enamel plate which I got for camping 35 years ago.  It's a bit dented but it wont break.  If you live alone, like I do, you don't even need a second one.  Got it in Millets.  Absolute bargain.

I'm thinking of throwing out a lot of my crockery and going back to basics like that to cut down on housework.

    Hey Sheldon,

    how's it going.

+ 1 to Wilkinsons and I should get down there myself as plates never last long in our Greek household.
    Happy shopping
