Yes I will keep going with the boost idea, though I'm using the Sweet Baby as a boost as it seems to go rather well into Fender amps, but next step is to play with EQ settings and position in the chain as the amp has no EQ of its own and I think it would benefit from it

Back off the gain you and run the master flat out, you can add dirt to clean/ gentle to moderate od but not the other way round ymmv etc.
