Yoko Ono

What's Hot

Was she crazed on drugs?  Merely an adjunct of Lennon's addiction?

Just pity the poor violin player, getting his moment, doing his Stéphane Grappelli thing. Probably in the full and certain knowledge of what was about to happen.

Then the banshee starts to caterwaul...

Best played LOUD

  • I’ve seen another video recently  of her covering a popular song & she emitted a similar noise ,it was quite bewildering , I think it was at an exhibition ,was it posted on here

Frank Zappa issued a different mix of one of the ‘Some Time in New York City’ tracks on his Playground Psychotics album under the title ‘A Small Eternity With Yoko Ono’.

I have a certain fondness for Linda Sharrock who did a lot of wailing (and was arguably ripped off by Pink Floyd) but within a context of fairly avant garde jazz so it was a reasonable response to the noises being made by the instruments and it was dynamic even if it wasn’t always melodic. I’ve only heard a few things by Yoko and that track in the OP seems reasonably representative: fairly straight rock music with her screaming over the top which just gets old very quickly.
I’m fairly sure we have one prominent member (ooh err) on here who likes Yoko who may yet post in her defence but I’ve not been convinced so far.

If only someone on here were selling a John Lennon LP Special, that would be the perfect foil for Yoko’s unforgettable vocals…

I knew someone was gonna post the Chuck Berry / Ono clip when I saw the thread title.  =)

Be thankful you're not a Grateful Dead fan - this used to happen every s*odding time they did Playing In The Band in the 70s...

God-awful, but interesting how many musicians (other than Lennon) have been inspired to write about her. Maybe it’s just because her name is fun to sing.

I do like Yoko. She's not really a musician, she's a performance artist - it's not meant to be musical in a conventional sense, that's the point - she knows full well what she's doing.

She can actually sing when she wants to - not the best, but she can pitch well enough.

She didn't break up the Beatles either...

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

You'd have to be properly fucked up on some good drugs to like that shit, wouldn't you?

FORTUNATELY - at the time, a lot of people were.

...that said, the screaming does make it at least slightly more interesting that the average circle jerk blues jam, which apart from the violin is mostly what it is.
