You just can't feck about with the original.. it was so damn perfect that any deviation just sounds completely fake.
The Foo's version was awful too, almost 'synthetic' in its delivery.

The drums are really important to get right. Bill Ward's playing on the original was much more nuanced and sophisticated than what I'm seeing here.

Bill had those jazz and blues influences and other drummers doing Sabbath ( including those who replaced him in the band) never seem to get the feel right, although possibly less of an issue on War Pigs than some other songs. And the drumming was the best bit of the Foos cover.

I agree about Bill. His jazz/blues influenced style was so different for such a band. If bands want to cover the song, then they should, but I don't think you can improve on the original.

I never really got the Foo's, either. I like some tracks, but the majority don't do anything for me. I do think Dave Grohl is a talented guy, though.

Agreed.  I find most of their stuff just white noise, bashing away at open chords clatter, with no definition to the guitars.

Still inexplicably 'cool' for some reason, yet a 'housewives' choice for me - the Robbie Williams of the rock world.
