Anyone using a Boss OD-1X/DS-1X/DA-2? - Now with review!

These adaptive pedals have been out for a while, but I've not really seen anyone using them or talking about them much.

The concept of them seems quite cool. I'm guessing from the vague marketing waffle that they are splitting the signal into various frequency bands and applying a distortion to each band separately.

Sound very cool from the demos and having something with loads of response to dynamics and string to string clarity can't be a bad thing.

I'm not sure why the DA-2 is a load cheaper than the DS-1X.

As usual Pete Thorn makes me want one.

I really like the idea of the notes in more complex chords sounding out whilst still distorting. That's actually a big deal to me and something I based my style on years go, accommodating that.

The DA2 I had, it was alright though a bit heavy metal voiced. I could see fusion guys or proggy metal dudes getting a lot of use out of the "hear every note in the chord" thing.

  • I've still not had the chance to try any, but they sound great and very, very unique.

It's not voiced in a way that would be useful for me, but the bit in this demo where he's playing Major 7ths with a load of dirt is really impressive:

It would be incredibly useful for me to have something that could do a bit of gain while still letting me play 6th and 9th chords.

Exactly, my big thing was always funk rock/metal so being able to get those chords clean would have been massive.

One of the most interesting elements for me is that the Adaptive Distortion algorithm is available on the Boss GT100.

One of the major reasons I've shied away from multis is that I've never found a digital distortion that I liked. If they updated it to include the DS-1X and OD-1X algos I'd be quite tempted to go that route.

That actually sounds awesome. I don't get much use out of distortion pedals, but the whole "big chords with loads of dirt" thing appeals to me.

Meh, a minor mishap monquixote. When you have more than me then it's become a slip up rather than a minor mishap.
