I submitted my thesis today.

Today was a big day. I submitted my PhD thesis. I've already started on the job front and have a few interviews lined up, but today is officially the day that I am unemployed. No GAS for me for a little while...

Chemical physics! Mainly about putting things in liquid crystals. Turns out it's a bad idea.

We are a learned bunch on the forum... I'd be more relaxed if I had more money I've got enough to manage without selling off all my gear for a few months, but it would be nice to have some security pre viva.

aha, boffin then. You'll find a job no problem then. And if all else fails, you can always have a lab accident and become a super powered villain (one of my chief regrets is not being smart enough to have a lab accident, the best I could ever hope for was to be a henchman, you know, the kind who gets beat up in the 1st scene).

Nice, I remember the feeling. Relieved but slightly lost! When's the viva? Good news is that if you were likely to fail somebody would have told you by now. And if you've got a paper your work has been peer-reviewed already for extra security.

Well done. Mine was handed in almost exactly twenty years ago. Can't remember what I felt - probably numb or bored!
