Binoculars

Grumpy old man alert!
Watching Vigil, BBC1, and a soldier is looking through a pair of binoculars. Image is the usual figure of eight on its side.
Why do the directors do that? Is it just to annoy me? I don't think I've ever seen a program or movie that shows a circular image.
Anyone else similarly irritated?

It’s less annoying than the portrait view phone videos with blurred side panels duplicating the image. Just WHY?!!

I think it's so you know it's binoculars.

Guns and punches don't actually sound like they do in fillums either.

And cows on film are actually horses painted black and white.

I was a bit dubious about the notion that they still use sugar for this, sounds a bit Charlie Chaplin. Five minutes on Google does seem to suggest that it is still the case although other materials are also used. For example if you wanted a prop bottle to hit someone with it might be rubber.

I like the "vooosh" noise when they sweep a torch from side to side. Like it's a lightsaber on eco mode.

Synchronise watches always gets me - as soon as they say it you have 3 or 4 different fellas click a button on their watch and that's it. Not one of them even says "What time do you make it right now Geoff?"

Surely that can't be done so easily.

My current thing to get annoyed on TV about when I really shouldn't is when someone grabs a microphone to do an impromptu speech they always add a little squeak of feedback that magically goes away.
