@CaseOfAce the Predators movie is awesome, it comes close to capturing the feel and fear of the first film which is superb obviously. The second Predator was a bit far fetched but decent, I also liked the recent one with the guy from Narcos in.

My head said brake, but my heart cried never.

I fear however that some on here would simply take that as a challenge and condemn themselves to long, miserable evenings watching the same drivel that I do.

    Interesting..

Alien is up there in my top 5 films of all time.. I watch it probably twice a year to remind myself how awesome it is.
Aliens is brilliant but for many other reasons.. it has the lines I quote most often when I'm out and about - 'Yeah but it's a dry heat' etc etc etc..
    I'll ignore the others until;
Prometheus - oh the visuals.. shame it's shit. Still watch it though cause it looks so amazing. Was probably my favorite looking film until I saw Dune 2 last weekend..
    I'll ignore the next one

As mentioned.. go and play Alien Isolation (in the dark with the sound up) and I can pretty much guarantee you will literally shit yourself.. awesome!

Alien vs Predator: Requiem is the worst film ever made, by some margin
It really isn't, but it is very very bad.
I've personally not seen worse, and yes I've seen Plan 9...
Plan 9's not even close to being the worst film ever made, that all came from Michael Medved and his Golden Turkey Awards in the 1980s.  Plan 9 is actually a highly entertaining film.  To me the "worst" films are those which are not only incompetent but **boring**.  That's the worst crime in filmmaking.

I agree that AvP: Requiem is a truly awful film.  And I seem to remember that there are large chunks of it which take place in near-total darkness, which doesn't help.  But I've definitely seen many worse, although it's hard to think of good examples... Uwe Boll's Alone in the Dark would definitely be in the bottom 50, it's not only dire but completely incomprehensible.  RIPD would be a fairly big-budget mainstream film which is complete and utter horseshit.  I agree Immortals was shit, but not that shit.  Skyline I quite like...

But then I've seen loads of awful, interminably dull low-budget efforts which are almost unbearable to watch and I can't even remember the titles.  Shockwave, Darkside (2014) would be one of them...
Oh god, RIPD was a trainwreck!

    I agree completely about Plan 9 - it's hilarious.

Alien was probably the best sci-fi horror film ever.  Aliens was also a great movie, but it was more of a sci-fi action flick than horror flick, it worked well, though.

After that things started to go downhill in the search for more money.

The thing is, the later films could have been so much better.  Alien Resurrection was actually quite good until the queen alien gave birth to that stupid half alien, half human hybrid thing, it just took a completely wrong turn and suffered badly for it.

The other thing that I cannot get my head round is why did the origin of the Xenomorph and the engineers need explaining in the first place?

Yes, there were a lot of questions posed by Alien, but that was half the beauty of it, that there was a whole untold backstory and leaving the viewer to make up their own mind was a brilliant way of engaging the audience.

I didn't mind Prometheus so much as a film in its own right but in attempting to answer the questions posed in Alien it once again took a wrong turn and ended up in the same obscure landscape as Resurrection.

I hope one day that somebody writes a much better story to replace Prometheus.

    Covenant was just so disappointing.

I will watch the new one, hopefully it'll be ok.  But, it can never live up to the first two simply because everyone has seen the Xenomorph more times than Kate Winslet with her baps out.

That's probably true.  In fact I'd be surprised if Kate Winslet has ever watched an Alien movie with her baps out.

Kate does EVERYTHING with her baps out.

Doesn't half cause a lot of confusion at the bakers she runs.

Certainly the two strongest candidates I can think of.

If you say space-set-sci-fi-horror, it's definitely Alien.

Though I have a soft spot for Event Horizon.

Alien still pips it to the post for me.  Event Horizon is another good one.

After discussing the movie with my partner last night, it transpired that she's only ever seen Alien and Alien 3. Wonderful news, gives me a perfect excuse to watch Aliens for the 500th time, and possibly the original and Prometheus again just for good measure!

And now guess what? Turns out she's never seen John Carpenter's The Thing either! Tremendous stuff, that's our movie nights sorted for the next few weeks!!  =)

Certainly a vast improvement on the original film with the giant carrot.

Meh, Alien is just a rip-off of Mario Bava's Planet of the Vampires.

Nice! I hope they use animatronix and stuff over CGI but it doesn't look like it.
