    I tried the stair master machine in the gym earlier. Managed 5 minutes but found it pretty hard for the first time! Didn't realise the stamina you need to continuously step at a moderate pace.

    Don't overthink it, just get up and move until you are fucked, next time try a bit further.
    In Emp's case that might involve a heart attack which is probably why he shouldn’t do that. 


    Just regarding fat burning, IIRC we use about 100 excess calories per mile (so, the calories you need to do more than just sitting there). Either running or walking. So,if Emp walked three miles per day for a week by the end of it he’d be twenty one miles from home. 
    [Or, everything else being equal that’s probably about a pound in weight loss when you first start doing it]

    The key thing to remember that it requires energy to move, so just move, regardless how slow you go, it still needs energy.
