buying an omega?

For all the watch experts - I fancy an omega watch - other than going into town and buying from a local jeweller is there anywhere I should look online?

One thing to note - if you buy off the high street don't accept the list price (which will be the same everywhere).

My Mrs. got 20% off mine at Ernest Jones and they still allowed her to have it on 0% finance over a few years if she wanted it.

IF you're buying cash, you could probably negotiate even more off.

Thanks chaps - yes I'll pay cash,  I just want to avoid that feeling of buying one and then spotting the same thing a lot cheaper elsewhere.    With guitars I know where to look (I think)  to spot a bargain but I haven't even worn a watch for many years.

If you don't mind buying second hand then there's plenty of places online, but if you want brand new, the prices seem to be very similar across the board, but if you walk into an actual shop with cash, you have A LOT of room for negotiation if you don't mind doing that sort of thing.

Oh and they are awesome. :)

I'd buy second hand if I could be confident about that it's all legit and not going to stop working a week later and the seller has disappeared.

Without giving a long tale of sentimental woe it's linked to memories of my father.   I like the simpler designs and after a bit of a look around over the last week or two I figured I might bite the bullet and get a new seamaster.    I've had a look around at some used ones again and I am quite interested in a used or vintage model - I'm just a bit wary of it failing.   I've seen some very nice quartz models at low prices but I guess an automatic would be better.

Here's a couple I just saw and quite like    auto   quartz

I have a Seamaster Aqua Terra (new one) and cannot recommend it enough. Understated, simple but looks great.

Trouble is, I want a Speedmaster now too :D

Oh and I'd definitely get an auto. More money, but their movements are well sexy.

Yours does look great.    I looked at something like this  decent price but maybe more chunky than I want and apparently is quartz so I'll keep looking.

I was just thinking I might have something you might like but you are probably best to get a new Seamaster from a shop with a guarantee.

    All the best.

Your link didn't work, but from the link description, I know which one you mean.

Nothing wrong with the Quartz ones per se, but to me, if you're going to get a "lifer", spend a bit more and keep something that will last forever.

always always always get the automatic, don't get a quartz. No point. joneve, wash your mouth out, there's everything wrong with getting a quartz!! If you are buyuing a quartz, just go get a 10 quid one.

    a proper watch is mechanical!

Buy it in the flesh, you need to see something expensive onyour wrist before you shell out, and you'll have now worries about authenticity if you get it from a "proper" shop.

And yes, never accept face value price always haggle, you can expect to get10 - 20 percent. They may throw in free servicing, but that's not worth having if they are offering to service any sooner than 5 years from purchase. It wont need it
and lastly, don't get the run of the mill common seamaster that everyone chooses, get something a little different,

Look around your local antique shops.  Regardless of brand, chances are its been there for a while and they'll be glad to shift it on.  You never know, you might be able able to haggle them down to good price.

    Some good words here.

Whilst I don't completely agree with there being "everything" wrong with a Quartz - he's right - a proper watch is and should be mechanical. I barely wear my two Quartz watches and having to replace the batteries is a pain in the arse.

And I would agree with buying in the flesh - getting to actually try it on etc.

Fucksake. I'm getting watch GAS again now!
