Without giving a long tale of sentimental woe it's linked to memories of my father. I like the simpler designs and after a bit of a look around over the last week or two I figured I might bite the bullet and get a new seamaster. I've had a look around at some used ones again and I am quite interested in a used or vintage model - I'm just a bit wary of it failing. I've seen some very nice quartz models at low prices but I guess an automatic would be better.
Here's a couple I just saw and quite like auto quartz

Yours does look great. I looked at something like this decent price but maybe more chunky than I want and apparently is quartz so I'll keep looking.
a proper watch is mechanical!
Buy it in the flesh, you need to see something expensive onyour wrist before you shell out, and you'll have now worries about authenticity if you get it from a "proper" shop.
And yes, never accept face value price always haggle, you can expect to get10 - 20 percent. They may throw in free servicing, but that's not worth having if they are offering to service any sooner than 5 years from purchase. It wont need it
and lastly, don't get the run of the mill common seamaster that everyone chooses, get something a little different,
